Apologies for the vague previous post.

A friend is looking for a 74-76 2002. Four or five speed, carb, a good solid driver preferably with some history. Wants to get in and drive with small issues that can be deferred. AC would be a plus.

Location, Philadelphia/Delaware Valley, he is willing to drive and see but no long distances.

Thanks, Steve

This is a decent 1973 2002 which is the best year.

Chris is right. My first car was a 69..loved it. Then a 72 came along, and I loved it more. Being the last roundie, many folks think the 73 is the ultimate; and its hard to argue. I think the esthetics of the 72 are my favorite... but the bond with my current 72 bumpered rear, and 73 front bumpered 76 square-tail makes me smile. Like marrying the right girl, who becomes the right woman.

I'm partial to 69s/70s where they had no knee trim.

I also love squares w/the full turbo flare/spoiler look w/the short rear bumper.

While I love the early 1600s & 2002s

By 1973 all the improvements had been made to the ‘02s. Last year of the 2 piece dash & has lighted heater controls the most simple & luxurious interior without the cross hair gauge business of the later ‘02s. On the Tii BMW replaced the fragile plastic intake runners with aluminum. They have longer bumper brackets on the 2.5 mph bumpers to actually protect the nose. All the benefits of the ‘74-‘76 ‘02s without the extra insulation, 5 mph impact bumpers & weight. Many ‘74-‘76 owners replace the 5 mph impact bumpers with the chrome 2.5 bumpers used earlier in the US & through the entire ‘02 run in Europe.

It’s all personal, I think my 69 was the best: no headrests, red center tail lights, three piece dash, early wide seats, porsche synchro four speed, etc.
I think the 69 is also best :)

this one can be for sale, but it’s not what he’s looking for, and it will cost an and a . Lol. 1969 2002, new color change to Colorado, new leather interior. New headliner new carpet blah blah blah. Best part it’s an automatic. Perfect cruiser.

Thanks. Was mostly curious because so many people seem to suggest the 121 head '72 tii is "the best," but I've also heard your opinion. I'm sure like most everything, it depends on what you're looking for. I know none of what anyone says is the best is based on actual facts (*ducks*). I love the simplicity of the early cars, definitely. Mine is a malaga '73 tii. Of course, if you want a tii, you have to go later. Nothing says you can't have both, though.
