Set the price for my E9

Hello all, will you guys help me out to price my E9, the 2800cs I have to sell one of this two or both cars, I have my Inka orange paint completed and need the room to work on it, I can park two cars but I only can have one car in parking to work on it, please check the pictures and give me you opinion, thank you all, I got rebuilt engine 3 new carburetor, 5 speed, coil over all around, under the car every busing and part are brand new, and new tire on 15" wheels as you see on the picture, new red seat belt, renew all the woods with new veneer, I replace rubbers, the one I could fined, front ventilated disk brake and new brake caliper and back is drum and all new, bumpers are fiberglass from Alberto painted with CERAKOTE in flat black front and back spoiler, and more important I did what I could to me is not perfect like Chris Malaga that he sold lately bot is not bad either.
and my Malaga E9 that is 3.0csi with M3 engine and 5 speed and LSD, and Willwood big brake I did the same plus interior is new, dash and seats redone all wood new veneer I will have sum picture just check it out thank you again and will see what you guys think.

The Malaga one, it's quite a hot rod. If it runs as good as it looks (does AC work?), then maybe anywhere between $90-120k. Will need a few more pics of course before you sell it.

The blue one, also very cool. Not enough pictures of the underside. Well...not enough pics period on both to really tell. Would help w/walkaround and driving videos.

Hello, the Malaga drives like champ it is unbelievable really fast car, the computer is open up it is not limited like original M3, old car like that it dos not look the way it runs if young one buy this car have to change tire once a week and blue one dives good but can not compare to the Malaga, under the car as you see it is perfect every part is new and spray with CERAKOTE that will stay forever even gas tank is spray with CERAKOTE that will never rust or like paint will never peel off but I spend tons of money on that CERAKOTE I will try to video this weekend I hope is not a rainy day

the blue E9 gear 1 and 2 like normal classic car but in gear 3 and easy fill 80 mile but didn't push on 5, I think that's very good for 50 years old car, the engine is brand new and piston and valves are upgraded with 3 Weber I don't think it is a not normal E9, I drive my friend 3.0csi with 3.4L engine I think my blue one drives way better and faster than his csi, I did not fix the AC yet need modification Malaga have M3 AC on it and blue one AC compressor is upgraded to new kind of chrome compressor so it needs a little work since I start working on my new Inka orange I have no time for this two I didn't install the stereo yet and sum wiring work on blue one little thing hear and there to be a 100% but I would like to sale it as it is, it took me to long and spend lots of time on this two I got tired of this two color

I think we all need a lot more information about the level of body restoration, in order to make a judgement.

Have the front fenders been removed and replaced? What does the cavity under the fenders show in terms of rust? How are the rockers? Do you have photos of the body restoration process?

Where are you in Ca? If you are in SoCal or the Bay Area, the market for your car is huge and a lot of folks can come take a look in person.

BaT is a great place to sell, but you must be prepared for lots of questions. And it may take six weeks to get listed.

The seller of that car, and the 2002 he had for sale on BAT at that time, made it appear that the two of were are working together on your restorations. His cars were poorly done.

From my perspective, either you need to distinguish your work from his work on those two cars, or we must conclude that your cars are also poorly done. If that is the case, I would think something like the bid on that e9 - $52,500 - is much more likely than $90k to $120k.

I know @sfdon offered to visit your shop and help with your projects. Perhaps you have had sfdon to your shop and had him evaluate your cars and have addressed his suggestions. This would be great, particularly in light of your admission that the e9s were much more complex than you expected when you got into restoring them.

Please provide more information.

Hello and thank you for your time, I am not a mechanic and I don't know lots of thing, I know I can not answer all the question on BAT, that's why I don't want to go to BAT, I see sum time in BAT people they don't want to buy the car but they poisonings the auction and no one wants to bid, I see no reason to remove the fender it was very good, as far as my body man said, I can not say restoration, I can say upgrade or renew, since previous owner years ago did the restoration I have the pictures, when I start it there was no rust on Malaga E9 I did not paint it I just polish the car and it is look great and I am not professional, I did what I could as I said it is not like HBChris car perfect, he sold it on BAT for 145 it was Malaga E9, but one thing I know I replace every part I could fined specially suspension every single part is replaced, when I strip under the car to replace all suspension parts, I clean with wire brush on the grinder it was hard to do and took me two days to clean, but it came up better than sand blast, then I spray the coting, I did not try to save money and use old part, and I have a new battery to work with M3 engine, check the picture rear wheel is 11" and I use 245 tire and front is 9" and I have 225 tire it works very good, when suspension and tire is all new, car will ride like new that's very important how car will ride, I am in So Cal, North of Los Angeles

I think any one wants to buy a car with that price tag it is the best to see the car in person, it is a big risk to buy a car with picture I think 80 or 100K is worthed to spend a day to check the car, am I right?

Just for some perspective, the fenders were not removed when I restored the Malaga coupe although the front half of passenger side was replaced years earlier due to an accident. And the Chamonix fenders were never removed as it is extremely original and solid, it was last on the road in 1989. I look at the tightness of the fender seams, condition of the tar pads, condition of A pillar in the wheel well and the forward part of the rockers along with the floor. It all depends on how well the coupe was cared for in a previous life.

yes you are right, he is very good mechanik, but I don't know about other works, that's why he works on my engine and gear box and all other thing I have don it my self except painting and seats,all the suspension parts I have put it on my self all the break job shocks I have don it my self, Don was at my home he saw all the mess in my garage that's why it took me so long to completed I am working alone I will take a picture right now for you to know I steel working on it that is not 100% completed as I said I can park 2 car but when I am working on the car I have to park one outside like you see in the picture, every one have there own way to put the car together and I didn't say I restore the car, for restorations of a classics car it has to be like original, but not many cars is restored like original, specially my car with M3 engine nothing like original, however I didn't put the price on it this cars, bad or good have its own price,maybe like you said 52,500, is this a price or this an offer? however why are we complaining aren't we supposed to be a friend what are we complaining about, this is a good community we have lets keep it that way, I ask for help I didn't ask for problem, if you can please help if you can not help. you ask for more picture, from what part you need a picture, what I did to the car, I only work under the car I have not touch the paint since was very good, interior the seats and carpet was ripped I had to change, dash was small crack and woods color was very light and I did not liked it, I had to change all the veneer and redo the wood work my self, I am very good at the wood work, and interior color was ugly now I have cinnamon and was don by upholstery guy, he did very good job I like it, and Willwood brake was plug and play it was easy to install, but the engine was a challenge to make it work on E9 we did not change the subframe it seats on original E9 subframe, radiator is M3 radiator and he manage to put the filter

Not all e9’s are rusty contrary to the widely accepted trope. Even the ones that have rust, it doesn’t mean that the rust will advance anywhere past a point of concern. Even the owners in the rust belt are keeping these cars in an area that doesn’t see the elements, and limiting exposure on the road to dry days. Sooo many member cars are rusty. We just don’t see it. Somehow they are continuing to enjoy them.

You have chosen some personal customizations that for most people, take away from these cars. If you are to sell them, I suggest that you remove all the contrasting colors on the wheels, engine bay, interior, and trim. No red, blue, or gold paint, vinyl, or fabric anywhere. Paint your wheels silver on both cars. Use factory amber indicator lenses and factory headlights. Remove all excess BMW roundels, and any BMW motorsport roundels. The e9 already has 8 roundels on the exterior, and a roundel on the valve cover. We know it is a BMW.

Some of these modifications you have done are too personal. It is akin to having family photos up when you sell your home. Market your car to what the buyer wants, not what you want. Don’t fool yourself into thinking that your style modifications are so novel that they increase the value of your car. The most outrageously modified e9’s still don’t deviate in this department. You can do whatever you want just accept that polarizing personal touches reduce your target audience.

Hi Chris, my body man told me is solid and very good why you want to spend more money, and I trust him he is long time friend but my Malaga has been restored with previous owner I have all the paperwork one box full I didn't need to restore it, I didn't like under the car I clean with wire brush on grinder and I spray all under the car before I put back the parts, that's why it look like freshly restored, but it is not.
on the Malaga I only have the headlight that it came from M3 that's all, and it is easy to change I have the original one.

Yeah not referring to the motor. I would have gone a different route with mounting the gauges but I think for this application the extra data makes sense.

I concur.

If you have a solid E9, no need to remove the fenders, but ya, as craterface suggested, when doing a restoration, best to look around w/a boroscope to see if you really NEED to remove the fenders.

My E9 is maybe 90% rust free, but I'm going to remove the lower section of the front fenders just so I can make sure nothing is amiss. Easy to put back those lower sections on. Removing the whole fenders is a pain, expensive, and if not put back on the correct way, can often REDUCE the value from shoddy worksmanship.

Both of your E9s look pretty awesome and are in better shape than the average me thinks, but I think someone like Chris and/or Don should take a look first-hand and give recommendations on what to add/remove/cleanup before the sale.

And yes, have a person like Wob sell your car so you don't have to deal w/the banter, but honestly, BAT seems to bring in the most money for E9s.
