Ideally, it should be paired to a Getrag 265 close ratio box. This box has a 1:1 ratio on 5th gear. These boxes and diffs were paired to about 50% of the early euro 635 Csi cars. Of these cars with this trans diff combo, most also had factory Recaro seats. I’ve been hoarding my diffs as these are getting harder to find in reasonable condition. IMO this is a fair price.

Great info gents
I do have a 3.07 sitting with no use as I was told it won't for to my new built
I pulled the diff from an 85 635csi Euro car and I am now more excited knowing that I can pair it with my 265/6 Gear box

That is a late model diff, not an early side loader. As such, it’s completely useless in an e9, although a great diff to have. Sorry to be “that guy”

Yes I was concerned as well that the 1985 differential would not be applicable in an e9.
Sorry Tom

Alejandro- The 265/6 isn't the CR box. The close ratio box is the dog leg patterned 265/5. FWIW- one came with my CSL in the bundle of extra parts if anyone has been hunting for one...

What's different about it that it won't work in an E9? Just askin.
The case size and bolt up configuration is different. Originally the 635 was built on e12 chassis design. I believe in 1982 they went to the e28 chassis design.

All mounts, all mounts locations, all dimensions in both generations of side-loaders are 100% the same, they are interchangeable (as whole part) without any issues for sure.

The only thing is that not all parts inside them are interchangeable.

I installed one of these (open, not LS) in my '74 with a 3.8 fuel injected engine and 265/6 OD transmission. Replaced a 3.65. I loved it, as the engine had plenty of torque for the 20% higher wheel speed, AND the speedometer in the car was now dead accurate (had been 20% higher than ground speed with the 3.65 diff). The car was used for pleasure driving, not track or drag racing!! Thus the lower engine speed at highway speeds of 65-75 was also an improvement.
