so what do you think a perfect 40cm petri is worth ... and do you think an unused one exists

But , now you speak of the rims... i needed 8.5 x 17" to clear the Wilwood calipers and the 245 tires i wanted... so i use those Schnitzer rims. I can buy them at 500 euros per 4 .... i may ofcourse NOT be afraid to damage them in rally . I like my black ones the most ....

What would you propose ? :)

Question wasn't for me, but if 17, then 17" Alpina - i think it will be much better choice and they are not very expensive (not like 16"). You can even make them look open lug with black center.
Schnitzer are ok, but not for E9, they where made for E34 - i have same Schnitzer style RH X-Rad 18" on my daily E60

i had a thought this morning regarding Petri wheels ... i know many of the people who commented herein already has a Petri wheel. i also know that some of the people looking got connected with one recently, but there has to be some 'closet' lookers that haven't publicly expressed their desire / need to find one. since there are several people that tend to keep an eye out for one ... would it be wise to let the group know when somebody wants to find one. i know i look on ebay every now and then, i think Marcos keeps track of everything ... Keshav keeps an eye out in Germany ... and there are a few others.
 
As Marcos pointed out, for expensive wheels past the one grand mark, the air gets mighty thin.

For those who have top quality coupes, surely have a wheel of their choice already. Those who are still working on their cars, don’t want to invest that much right now (except folks like M).

The Petri wheels are very sensitive to the elements and show their blemishes, all too well. To find a Petri in virtually perfect condition, is getting close to a lottery win.

And as Scott points out, if there are some who want such quality wheels, let us know.
 
There are some specialty hardware vendors that might have the correct Phillips screws.
I understand the preference for their look over the Allen heads, but the Phillips is such a poorly performing screw that I'd be happier with the Allen head.

I don't know if this is timing but there seems to be an eBay seller in the US that has quite a lot of wheels for sale Inc 42.5 Nardi (item 122933049780) for $780. They're based in California and are seller:wood-steering-wheels

Not connected but it seems that as they specialise in wooden wheels they've marked this down as it's only leather.....

I paid $1300 (after some heated bidding) back in 2015 for a NOS never-mounted 40cm Petri. I love it; and IMHO, I think it looks better than any wood steering wheel. The black rim/metal spokes complement the black dash, and are set off by the wood dash, whereas a wood wheel clashes with the wood dash. Just my designer's eye talking...

I’ll go against the grain and say that while the Petris are pretty; they are not very comfortable. Having bought one ages ago when they could be had for $400 and driven with it for a few years I came to the conclusion that the wheel is too thin and the spokes are right where I want to rest my hands which made it uncomfortable. I have the same problems with the Nardi wheel on my coupe now. Best steering wheel I’ve owned was the Alpina Momo wheel; right thickness and room for hand placement. Mounting that wheel instantly improved the driving experience. I have a rare(?) Alpina Momo steering wheel that is wood on another coupe, but eventually I will cover it in leather

Is this the 38cm CSL Alpina or the later 4 spoke wheel? Having owned the latter steering wheel (sold), while it has nice fat grip, I found it to be a little too slippery as this Alpina MoMo did not have finger indents at the back of the grip. Don’t know if the original CSL Alpina wheels had this feature. Can anyone confirm?

I’m referring to the later 4 spoke Alpina wheel. I’m not familiar with the CSL Alpina wheel. I remember the 4 spoke didn’t have finger indents but the leather was grippy enough for me.

If so let me know. I know someone looking for a wheel as his is damaged. I also know someone looking for a horn button, trim ring, and hub. Kill two birds with one Petri! :)

I knew I should have said this in my original post; I do not have the Petri, it sold (along with that car) many moons ago. Sorry if I got hopes up.

Bert, the older Alpina wheels did not have finger indents either. As far as I know, none of the older leather wheels made by MOMO had finger indentations. Actually, I take that back as I can think of an exception: some of the wheels made for Ferrari in the 80s had indents.

The wood momos have finger indentations...
 
Im in the UK, and looking for a Petri 38. I have seen a few of them come up, but im told the hardest part to source is the correct hub??
