I just noticed this is a tight fit with standard 195/70/14 wheels. What do those with larger tire sizes do, just leave them in the trunk/boot?

Bob, are you talking tire diameter or tire width may be a problem?

Compared to a 195 70 14, a 245 45 16 is the same diameter, but 2" wider (for example)

I have a 215/60R-14 on the original wheel and it is a little tight. The floor is about 1/4 inch up on the back edge.

195 fits fine but anything bigger in diameter I was wondering about. I assume all with larger diameter tires kept the spare original in diameter? I brought it up cause I was surprised at the "custom fit" and it was something I had never considered.

Do I remember (from way back..) that the e24 well was deeper, slightly...and that some folks had exchanged that for their rusty original wells? I even bought an e24 well thinking I might need it, but sold it with my project car since the car's well had one rust hole.

You can put a spare wheel and tire in there? I thought this was the place for contraband when coming/going over the border. Otherwise, in case of a puncture, just call Hagerty for a flat deck trip home. ;) Just added a new spare wheel well floor :
