I took my E9 for an extended drive today. Just under 300 miles.

When I had the sun visor flipped down, I think it would have been better optically if the back side were black. When they are stowed, of course the side showing should be white.

Functionally I think a back CSL headliner would improve visibility and eliminate annoying reflections in the gauges.

Speaking of reflections, it was really bad for the fuel/temp gauge (left most). I often had to shield the face with my hand to see the fuel needle. BMW should have used angled glass or swapped positions with the clock.

John

PS: on this tired motor I averaged 18mpg at an avg speed of 78mph. Sure is an relaxing highway cruiser (I was using my BOSE QC30’s ANR earbuds).

@bfeng, have you given any thought to just flipping all of your gauges? why not put the clock on the outside left and the temp / fuel on the inside right ... whether you flip them all depends on the wiring harness.

Why not have new lenses from anti glare glass made?

That is exactly what I was thinking onthe drive! The glass on some of my wall art is very slightly matte, just enough to cut the majority of any glare. I wonder if I could DIY it with really fine grit media in my blast cabinet...

Isn't it interesting that the CS cost triple the price of a 2002 in 1972,yet the visors in a 2002 have black tops and the heater valve shuts off the hot coolant running through the center console while the CS has no heater valve. I made sure my car has no coolant running through the center console. Who needs that in sunny south Florida?

Another option would be to move to seattle. We only have about 90 days of sunshine.

When I was picking a place to raise our kids Seattle was right up there with Boston and SF. I love Seattle (well, actually Bellevue), but with 4 race tracks within 2.5 hours & VSR1 just 50min up the road, and 2 acres with a barn for the car’s ... we are pretty happy with Boston. But when I retire I’ll haul my race trailer out there with my X5, do a Sovren event, and we can do an E9 dinner with Pete.

Gage visibility might better be improved by using a slightly matte finish overlay, rather than irreversibly removing the glass and blasting it.

????????? Just go to the glass shop and get the right product cut to size Actually probably at a frame shop

John, I have a quart of SEM vinyl paint in low gloss black, bring em over, we can play with them. The guys also gave me SEM solvent so we can just remove it if you don't like it.
