Thoughts on 3 piece custom "slotted alloys" (Pic Inside)

I like this one a lot....these were never a cool wheel to have but now they look great.

Lost in Translation

IMHO 2 stylů snaží obsadit stejný prostor a příliš zaneprázdněn pro mě , naleštěné , přišroubovaných ráfku střety s nábojem víčkem . Buď rozšířit původní kolo jak řekl Stan nebo odstraňte víčko a jít otevřené oko .

Stan, well said! I think? Almost to Vienna.

Those are trx bottlecaps. The nicest looking of the bunch IMO, and forged by Fuchs. The problem was the uber expensive metric tires, more than the famed Michelin XWX. Basically, the wheels are now worth their weight in scrap. What makes this mod extra special is that the wheels are no longer metric.

IMHO - this discussion is perfect for some other type of car w/ custom trim. for an e9 coupe ... its a horrible idea. the coupe looks very good with period type wheels, stock (both early and late), alpina + alpina style wheels, bbs style 5 type wheels ... and precious few others. too much bling is just too much, with all of the polished chrome look on the cars - belt trim, window trims, rocker trim, bumpers, grilles ... be careful on how much is on the wheels.

look at ohmess' weds wheels, they are black with polished lips ... look great and the black balances the polished nicely ... on some color cars it might look a little busy.

This is a no-go for me also, just not my "my cup of tea". I thought your project is suppose to be a budget build:?:. $200 for a rim half-times 8, machining the old rim centers-$800?, and all the mounting hardware (they ain't cheap), you are probably looking at around $3k at the very least. Invest your money elsewhere for your coupe.

as a design exercise, photoshop is free.
It would be interesting to see the OEM wheels at 16"
I am not sure which aspect I would elongate, perhaps the 5 holes so that the metal hubcaps stay the same size. If I were the designer, I would not polish the lip on this style wheel, but that is me...
I would not make a 3 piece wheel as it is too "busy" for this wheel.
2 cents worth.

Hi Stan,

I wish PhotoShop was free. :) I'll do the 16" and 17" oem+ wheels next.

Well free in terms of wheel manufacture.
I am not a photoshop user so I do not know the limitations. Can the wheel center where the hubcap is be left as is and "stretch' out the rest of the wheel?

Certainly possible. I am a mediocre PhotoShop user. I probably won't mess with the holes. Maybe... PhotoShop is about $600 or so. You can get a cloud subscription for as little as $10 a month. That is what I have.

Some Halibrand wheel photos you might consider using for photo shop activities / magic if you care to. Sorry, some were taken at slight angles which I know isn’t ideal. Tell me BMW didn’t get their inspiration for early coupe wheels from Halibrand ? Well their stylists will never tell….. but I just have to wonder. ~ John Buchtenkirch
