This was brought up last year in December but I don't remember anything happening. I could help with cleaning up photos in Photoshop but can't commit to taking care of the ordering/procuring of the calendars.

Any interest in a calendar? Any interest in taking ownership of it? 8)

Dan

PLEASE TAKE A LOOK AT:

http://s198.photobucket.com/albums/.../?action=view&current=1-1--30CSi1972-1024.jpg

You should be able to scroll through the photos forward and backward. I am trying to keep this gallery updated as new submissions are sent to me Each photo has a number like (8-2) which signifies the 2nd entry from forum member 8. We should be able to use these two number combinations for voting. I propose that we allow people to have 100 total voting points and they can allocate them to any photo(s) they want. A calendar can potentially have 14 photos or more (cover, back, 12 months). However it is also possible to include more than one photo per month and the back is often a table on months.

You can also find the photos simply by going to www.photobucket.com and searching for jhjacobs. When you find me there are two albums; choose the E9Coupe Calendar album and your will see thumbnails. Click on the "view all" button and all album pages will be brought up.

I will keep adding photos until it is time to vote. We will publish formal instructions at that time.
Send all photo submissions to me at: [email protected]

PLEASE REMEMBER, MOST PHOTOS ARE VERY HIGH QUALITY AND I HAVE REDUCED THEM TO 1024 PIXELS (MAX) FOR EXPEDIENCE IN VIEWING / LOADING. WHEN PRINTED THEY SHOULD TURN OUT REALLY NICE!

Most likely I will use a software package like EZPHOTOCREATIONS to build a calendar. I am still looking for a "sharable" format to show design concepts.

When we get around to voting I strong suggest that we consider things like:

- cover car
- worst rust
- most potential
- best interior
- sexiest
- most elegant
- most likely to get a ticker
- best before & after
- best beater
- best daily driver
- showiest
- cleanest engine or undercarriage
- most intimidating

Alternately, I can try to find a share to share a few designs and we vote on them....

Maybe you could allow everyone to submit their best photos than choose 11 nicest, and make one for December with all the photos submitted. Something similar to what they did at bigcoupe.com?

I did a bit of quick checking and it appears that are a variety of on-line sources to get photo calendars made from $20 down to $10. The turn around is also 1-3 weeks. It may even be possible to do a deal with Kinkos to have them printed locally around the world on demand (worth exploring).

It would be difficult to objectively select a handful of photos from a large number of submissions; of course we could vote on the "best" but I think the idea would be to celebrate E9 preservation in all forms from keeping a beater on the road to rust busting to concourse work to racing example. IMHO it should be possible to create collages each month with a central photo surrounded by other photos. I would personally like to see a photo of everyone's coupe or even some great rust shots from projects along with a car name and/or forum alias. Based on the badge project we have at least 60 very active members and probably >100 when it comes down to it.

The key to making such a project work is actually financing. When I did the grill badges I had to pay the tab on risk and then try hard to operate at zero profit. In this case, I suggest that we shoot for 100-125 calendars and price them so that the cost (including S&H) is covered by about 60%. Any net proceeds can then be applied to site maintenance or for the next purchase project.

I have lots of pictures, Only problem is I don't have a complete car!
Malc, I would like to see a photo of your shop / car in parts! I think idea should be central!

what about a geographic selection process - cars from each region, preferably in front of something iconic (although too far for me to drive to sydney)?

I say we start sending in photos, since no matter what we end up doing or not doing we need pictures!

Email them to either jhjacobs or dang. Large file sizes are best, and some photos may be rejected if they aren't big enough to print clearly.

We'll figure which photos to use after we get enough to choose from. Let's make a deadline of Dec 1 for photo submissions and go on from there...

Amen. I have a 300M mailbox so don't worry about sending high res photos! I also bought a professional PhotoBucket account which may come in handy.

Please send entries to:

jhjacobs @ ix.netcom.com (but remove the spaces around the @)

We've had a few suggestions about how to orchestrate picture selection. I'll have to spend some time with Dan to work out exactly how to post and collect votes for optimal results.

So far I have only seen 2 submissions! I will make make a submission myself but I plan on doing a photo shot this weekend to see if I can produce some top quality entries; I only hope I can do better with a digital camera than I do with a paint can :p

Bela - all I can say is that the interior shot of your coupe is so nice it is almost pornography!

I'm trying to read between the lines- so you don't like the exterior... :D

thanks for the compliment

I'm away at work right now, in sunny Wyoming :?
Next week ok?
Only problem is my pictures look like a parts catalogue

There hasn't been a flood of activity on the calendar yet. I have received a smattering of really nice photos. I supposed I could simply pull from the existing gallery and the actual submissions and post something for review...

I am soliciting comments on this project; let's not let this die on the vine!

1. Any particular theme? We covered lots of ground on the badges before settling on E9-Driven
2. Should we try to pick a different color coupe each month?
3. Should we work from Jan to Dec and map from beginning restoration to completed work?
4. Should each month have a theme?
5. Should we have only one photo per month or a collage?
6. Should we pull from old BMW advertising? Map ads to current cars?
7. How many copies should we print (if any); what are the options for distribution?
8. Should we make a screensaver instead?

I would welcome some help if anyone else is interested in working on the logistics.

Overall I think we should keep it real simple!
I don't think we should do themes, a screensaver or a restauration. If we receive only few submissions we should do 1 photo/month. In the case of an overwhelming number of photos we could look at a collage.

I strongly suggest we use photos of member's E9 cars ... using BMW official photos would not be 'fun' .. in fact let's forget about a calendar if we won't use our own photos :)
Using member's photos is what makes the calendar exciting.. photos of various models from around the world .. not official BMW photos with 'BMW-perfect' lighting ... :)

In terms of copies to be made, I suppose we would all give upfront 'commitments' on the number of calendars we would purchase.

As far as only featuring member cars I think this is the only worthwhile solution.

We currently have 8 people with submissions. Probably about 50 photos total. There is certainly enough for a calendar but it would be nice to have at least 15 different people entries.

Another set of question for the forum:

1. What should the Calendar title be? 2008 XXXXX Calendar?
2. What other annotations should be incorporated?
---- www.e9coupe.com
---- E9-Driven & Logo?
---- Forum logo / banner?
73cfb51410f2902dc53201007ae1cdb9.jpg

---- Other information?
3. How should photos be annotated (if at all?)
4. Should we put in any special dates / holidays? I would vote against dates other than those dealing with coupe / car events to avoid any issues with religion, nationalities, personalities, etc.

I just found out that FedEx Kinkos will print custom photo calendars. I am in the process of contacting them to see if we can produce a design and then allow it to be printed on demand by anyone in our group. I am also trying to find out how much customization is possible; from the web site it appears that photos can be annotated and you can select a cover and 13 pages. Each page can have one landscape photo or two portrait photos.

Agreed, the calendar should show at least 12 different cars

1. How about '2008 BMW Coupe (E9) Calendar'
2. I would suggest only the URL. All information is available from this one source anyway
3. With model and year .. and possibly country
4. The calendar should show only coupe/car related dates or no dates at all

:D

In order to include year, location, etc., it is necessary that it be available.

I am now able to get into the Gallery and I will begin posting submissions tonight, honey-do's permitting. I include what information I have available about each car and leave it to the submitter to correct / complete the information.

Some informations about the owners would also be interesting.
When they bought their coupes, how long they worked for the restauration or so.
And how old and what profession they are.....
