Hi Steve,I have a speaker grill Alpina style gauge cluster, no drilling and reversible. I also ditched the oil temp gauge in favor of a volt meter.
What gages did you use? It is hard to find VDO with white dials.

Speedhut can customize any gauge you want.
They can but at 12” they honestly aren’t that nice. A bit digitized. Mine are from speedhut. They look great at driving level.
I went with speedhut for a few reasons. I wanted:
- Chrome Bezels
- White Needles
- Bar / Celsius
- Aluminum Needle Base
- No english text (I made logos instead of german text)
- Wideband sensor in lambda that matched other gauges (most don’t match and are generally pretty ugly)
notably overkill. 3 gauges look better IMO.
I don’t like that the speedhut needles are illuminated.
BTW - that gauge plate isn't nearly as glossy as it looks. The reflection from the chrome and garage lights is really making it look shiny. Painted in satin black.

I researched gauges for a while before landing on the ones above.
My favorite factory gauges are from an Opel Kadett. You can get them in a few different formats and they are a great visual match. Note that some if not all are rear mounted like the CS. That may pose a mounting challenge.

This gauge package came with the car and I’m not sure where owner obtained it. Didn’t see anything real similar in this thread.
This is essentially what I have, except my gauges are above the radio. You have AC console sides in a non AC car. The angle of that console points the gauges up at the driver. Yours goes a step further and points them on an angle towards the driver’s seat. Pretty cool!

If I went that route I would have removed the bezel and painted the dials white. I've done this with VDO gauges in my past life with good success. There are a number of posts that show how to pop a VDO gauge. Sadly you need a special tool to install the bezel properly, but it can be done 'improperly' with good results. I think that @Gransin discussed disassembling and cleaning his e9 gauges.
This is how I solved the need for some extra engine surveillance. The basic idea was to make it as close to original instrument layout as possible. The gauges are angled in the same way as the main cluster even if it is located further down it helps the driver to get a better view of the situation. This is a car without AC and the console is almost vertical at this point unlike the ac version. The rounding of the ends makes it easier to angle the instruments towards the driver without the bottom of the bracket protruding outside the console.
