The original delivery engine blocks were stamped with a + before and after the VIN(like on the firewall), the exchange engine blocks with an X before and after the VIN

Also, Michael, be aware that the engine number can be hard to see back there by the firewall. It's down in there so you have to do a little hunting with a flashlight, especially if there is any grime back there. And it is hard to photograph with a phone. I had to use the video feature on my phone and then get a still image from that. I sent that to Andreas when I was applying for my certificate.

I always assumed my car had the original engine, just by the look of the engine bay. (Hasn’t been touched before the restoration). A forum member had Luke warm (had) interest in my car and asked to prove it. I couldn’t fish it out with my I phone, assuming I’m looking in the right place (flat part of the bell housing at starter attach point). It is a CSI so there’s a little more in the way In comparison to a carb coupe. I’m waiting for an Endoscope to arrive in the mail, but meanwhile, has anyone had any luck with Accessing the engine Vin number any other way? Without removing everything or the iPhone video camera, as it’s impossible to maneuver an 11max there. I tried.

It’s definitely feasible to fit your iphone down there on a fully assembled car. You go to the left of the booster by intake runner #6. You need to work around the coolant hoses. I did it with my plus-sized iphone on my CSI (and other CS’s). Come in from the left of the VIN not the right.

Definitely a challenge. Push heater hose to one side, use a brush to clean the flat boss, use a flashlight, hope for the best!

Markos, I tried your Aproach but just couldn’t squeeze the I phone in position.
It was easy enough to remove the last banana out of the way and I had direct shot to the numbers.
