What is art, what is hanging in your garage wall.

Most people consider art a painting but they do nothing for me. Art to me are individual car parts that just have a beauty of their own. My art hanging in my garage walls consists of a few older BMW valve covers, Alpina wheels, A used front rotor from a E36 race car, complete front grills for a cs coupe, 2002 and a 320i , chrome hubcaps from my old Alfa Romeo and BMW, and quite a few license plates from every car that I have owned. These are things that I genuinely enjoy looking at.

What do you consider art and what is hanging in your garage as art?

I have a roundie tail end. I wanna make the lights light up when I get some time. It's even Inka.

Hanging from the ceiling of the original Simione(sp) Museum in a two story warehouse in Philadelphia was the shell of a 1950s Jag.
If you were lucky enough to visit the original building consider yourself blessed. If not, you will have to make due with the prettified displays and hokey backdrops of the new one.
Same unique collection of cars, most just off the track with mud in the tires.

Google the museum. Nothing like their collection on the planet!

I am on the road at the moment, but will post my thoughts this afternoon....

various showroom signs, posters, personalized plates, dealer plates, car parts, tools and plate frames

The rear tow hook on my E28 that was rusted out in the spare tire well and repaired at some point with an arc welder that provided weld 3/4" thick. Now replaced with new metal. Also I have a rod from a Keith Back hemi motor that was in a funny car and was sent through the block. A cam from an old Vincent motorcycle, various posters but the prize item is a street sign that says bull**** boulevard. Many cars are built in my garage while drinking a cold one.

My M6 photo made into a refrigerator magnet. I have been forbidden to give them out as holiday gifts!

Art is ALWAYS something that is useful.

Here is the latest installation in my shop. The parts were free after talking with a Ukrainian guy in a bar who said the car was mine for the stripping as it was going to the wrecker in the morning. The car was in a disgusting garage off an alley in a property that had been sold in Toronto. It was straight and complete and had been a nice car when parked. It was now a toxic mould growth lab, with the carcass of a dead racoon by the rear wheel. I took a few parts and was impressed with how easy it is to take a Benz apart with just a screw driver a ten mill socket a flashlight and a Beer. Fun Times. I will put the windshield wipers on Ebay and expect a fortune!

I was hoping to put a giant print of this Dr Seuss panel in this part of my shop.

I'd like the original…failing that a printed bootleg will suffice

My Thoughts....

I've got a souvenir from every car I've owned (almost)...I would consider that art.

As for hanging on my garage....a hand-painted (stenciled) plate from my Unimog...I know plates are 'cliche' but this one is made from 3/16 plate steel..

For BMW art...I would not go any farther than the Pebra key we all have...Its the fine details that make the difference...I also believe the Mercedes 600 (Grosser) had the same type of key!

Also forgot to add how you treat something also dictates its value (art or other)...

I'm pursuing every factory poster and every magazine ad for every BMW I've owned. I'm almost there. I have 4 bays nearly covered floor to ceiling. May need another bay.

John, what does that machine with the leaf spring do? I probably need one of those!
