What should I do with my injectors

Hi guys
I’m not quite there yet , but hopefully some day , I might actually get to turn the key and hear my engine running for the first time since about 1995.
So my plan is to run all new fuel pipelines and hoses
I don’t think the old lines will be clean on the inside.
So what should I do with my injectors ?
Is there somewhere that could be recommended to clean them / recondition them ??
Then I was hoping to clean out the fuel tank and line it with some form of chemical tank lining fluid.
Is that recommended ?
And then the fuel pump surge pot is probably filled with crud too , so what should I do with that , maybe it could be cleaned and lined like the fuel tank.
And then my fuel pump is probably not working either , so should I buy a new one and if so which one ( my car is a 3.0 csi )
And maybe the fuel pressure regulator needs replacement also ( maybe )
That’s a lot of questions , I know.
Any advice would be great
Thanks

I bought a new tank for mine, but that was partly prompted by the fact it had been bodged and had lots of fibreglass and resin floating around inside it!

i think mine had been dormant for nearly 20 years - and on the fuel side, to get mine running I had the injectors tested and cleaned and the fuel rails were replated to tidy them up. As the fuel pump worked - amazingly - I fired mine up with the old lines, pump and surge tank/canister thing (from a temporary clean tank). I would have been better taking my time as the injectors were stuck next time I tried to start it - I think residual fuel probably gummed them up. Anyway, i managed to unstick them, and ultimately have put a new fuel pump on, the surge tank was sandblasted - that didn’t reveal any holes so I had it powder coated and reused it, and now have new hard fuel lines and flexible hoses. It’s been fine since and fired up fine the other day after a couple of months, so I think my early problems were just down to the dregs of old fuel - I do also avoid E10 petrol just in case.

All the other fuel injection parts are as found on the car - sensors, ECU etc. and they all seem to be working fine, which is fortunate as a lot of those parts and hard to find and/or expensive!

hi there
Fibreglass and fuel tanks definitely don’t mix well together.
I am not 100% sure whether I should replace my tank or not yet.
Was it difficult to find someone to test and clean the injectors ?

There's a fair bit of commentary on injectors Barry .Personally, i gave up servicing old injectors as they invariably failled.

You can send the pump and injectors to FIC... (fuel injection corp)

The new tank came from W&N - I think they had one of their sales on, so I bit the bullet and bought one. I had bought a decent non-injection secondhand tank and was going to modify that but went for a new one in the end.

Injectors were cleaned by "Injector Cleaning" near Hull - testing and ultrasonic cleaning was about £100 for the 6 - but they do recommend that you don't clean them until you are ready to use them as they don't like hanging around unused.

We all seem to use the Por-15 system to redo the tanks. Kit comes with a cleaner, etching and final coating. Just follow directions, stuff is rock hard when dry, fills small pin holes, works perfectly.

WRT injectors, I only have experience with my E24's, my E9 is a 3.0cs. Not sure if newer alternatives exist like on the E24's but I still sent mine out to be rebuilt and cleaned for originality. Cost is about 20 dollars per injector. I am sure there are places local to you. I have used Witch Hunter performance here in the U.S.

Perfect
Good to hear a real life review of a product, actually being used successfully.
I must order some Por-15 so.
Thanks again

IMHO- cleaning 50 year old plastic bodied injectors is a recipe for disaster.
They are so brittle that little chunks fall off.

Hi Don
I know you definitely have an awful lot more experience than me here , so I’m just wondering what would you recommend , should they be rebuilt and if so is there someone who you could recommend ?
Or is there a credible alternative replacement somewhere ?
Where they are on the engine and what they do for the smooth running of the engine I think I would really like to make sure they are good from the start rather than playing around with them from year to year.
Thanks again

I concur with Don's comments above ....I bought a set of these from Rock Auto which work great .....they also sell seal kit too for about usd $12 but haven't tried those .

I have a set of these. The pintles are different. Multiple holes supposedly yielding a finer spray pattern but I decided to just clean the ones that were already in my car which were in fine shape.

I used to go to the boneyards and pick injectors from the v-8 Mercedes.
And watch the plastic crumble apart in my hands.
I quit and had them rebuilt instead. Car fires suck.

I’m definitely not a fan of car fires for sure!
Do you still have them rebuilt ?
