Hi guys just looking for clarification about the wheels on my car.

Were these wheels standard for a CSI?

So would these have been standard on an E9 at time of purchase or an upgrade?

I think in 1973 they would have been model dependent or an upgrade. You see them on CSI’s but you also see the old slotted alloys. I think that all 1974’s got these. For the e3, I’m guessing something similar. I think yours are from an e3 since the centers are painted silver and not black. Just a hunch though. Perhaps some of the forum history experts can chime in.

Appreciate the input

For e9 RHD models,(except the CSl) they were standard fit from 73. Although the standard was satin black centres.
For the e3 for higher models only; the 2500 came with steel wheel and chrome hubcaps.

My car is a late 73 RHD so I guess that would make them almost correct?

Anyone tried having centres of these type wheels painted black?

Those are standard issue FPS

I presume he meant the standard FPS slotted alloys. They are listed through 11/75 so I suppose they were available through the whole production run. It seems like most 74’s have the 20 spoke wheels like the OP posted.

my OZ factory delivered '74 #435 series had cromodoras
Interesting, are you sure they are Cromodoras and not the standard FPS slotted wheels? They do look quite similar but the standard BMW wheels made by FPS (Foundry Pedrini Siena) are alloy whereas most Cromodoras are Magnesium.

As it says in the brochure for the CSl the standard wheels are 7x14 Alpina. For late model CSi the wheels are 6x14 Alpina style wheels. Made by FPS. Visually identical except for the difference in width.

Yup! That extra inch is almost entirely on the lip of the CSL Alpinas. 23.7mm anyway. :D

For the FPS wheels with the black centres, were the wheel caps black like the Alpina ones or silver like my BMW ones?
