I have been a member of this forum and really enjoy both reading the posts and when I am in need of help posting myself to get advice. One thing I find interesting is the names people have chosen for their screen names and what they mean. Some are obvious but many are very interesting. I will start this by explaining my screen name and hopefully others will join in this thread, especially the ones with interesting screen names that are the hardest to figure out. Before I got bit by the BMW bug I was a fan of Alfa Romeos and had owned a couple, then I discovered the BMW 2002 and owned a total of 7 in a span of about ten years until I bought my 71' 2800cs coupe a couple of yeras ago. My screen name VERDE2002 consists of the names of two cars. VERDE is for a 1988 Alfa Romeo Milano Verde edition I had owned and the 2002 is pretty obvious for my many BMW 2002's I have owned. I get asked once in a while from people on this forum if I owned a green 2002 because of the word verde which I think means green in Spanish but that is not the case.

My experience is near exactly the opposite. I had a 76 2002 from '79 to '88, at which time I bought an 88 Milano Platinum. That was one of the best cars I've owned and highly dependable. $16,999.00 at the time off the lot at Beverly Hills Alfa. Since then I have gone through three Mercedes (C280; 420 SEL; and current S430). 74 3.0 cs is for fun.

My screen name has no hidden meaning, other than being my middle name.

I loved my Milano too but got tired of waiting for parts to arrive from Italy when parts broke down and paying the "Alfa Specialists" an arm and a leg to fix the car. I must say it was the best handling 4-door car I have ever driven. I did have minor suspension modifications such as Bilstein shocks, larger sway bars, lowered the car which by the way with the front tortion bar suspension was way too low and the oil pan always hit the bumps but I loved the drive.

dequincey

stands for the english writer and opium eater thomas de quincey, which inspires me all the cynical and "savoir faire" of a nineteenth century "dilettante", in his words: "If once a man indulges himself in murder, very soon he comes to think little of robbing; and from robbing he comes next to drinking and Sabbath-breaking, and from that to incivility and procrastination.":)

I know, it has nothig to do with cars...it is more a way of life, such a man would have driven a e9 coupe !

Orangener is broad viennice dialect !

I´m Austrian, we speak mainly german, but we mostly use a slang like the Bavarian do.
A German as well as an Austrian would say Blue-Blau-Blauer or Green-Grün-Grüner or Red-Rot-Roter.
But Orange is the only colour where we Austrians use the ending --ner !
Orange,unique, one of a kind. :-D

For me - LIP277 is nothing more than a user-id of mine for some computer systems at work.

It's obscure enough that I can use it pretty much anywhere - but there is no hidden meaning...

hmmm, my story isnt as interesting as some of the others... Bimmerboy stems from my love of the BMW CSL track car as a child, growing up in Bavaria. It was the first car i ever fell in love with. I remember having a 1/20th scale remote control car when i was about 6 or so. It really only went forward and backward, one speed with rudimentary steering but i loved it. i would carry it around using the spoiler as a handle. The other two cars i had were the ford capri, the infamous rival of the csl for a few years (i didnt know that as a child, i just liked the car), and a white lancia with red and green stripes. So, anyway 30 years later when i was looking for a car to replace my Audi TT (great car, but too many problems to count) I decided to look into the vintage cars. After owning a car as iconic as the TT, its hard to go back to and 'every day mobile'. So...at first i looked at the 2002's. My folks owned one when i was young and it was a car that i had fond memories of. However, i wanted something more sophisticated, something sportier... and i found a legend... the car i almost forgot... the first car i loved, the BMW 3.0. Of course, being that it was the dream car of my childhood, i had to find a car of the same year as my birth... 1973... and i did. Hence, Bimmerboy73

DANG

DAN Graves, my name. My nickname also came from work, but I didn't pick it. The IT group gave us login names based on our first name and last initial. When they gave me mine I said "dang!, that sounds like a good one!". The IT guy laughed and asked if I wanted a new name but I decided to keep it.

I guess I could change it to DANG!

There are several meanings to ARDE, you judge the one I'll give you.

Most cars decay and devalue with time. Not an old coupe, you put something into it and it gets better. The epitome of "the older it gets the better it is" is the famous Carlos Gardel with his timeless Tangos. The mantra in spanish is that "each day that goes by Gardel sings even better", event though he has been dead since 1935.

G ARDE L

PS: DeQuincey maybe cynical but without music it can't perforate your soul as much as a Carlos Gardel or a Leonard Cohen.

Italians tend to refer to each other by last names. Bertocchi was one of Italy's finest mechanics and a fabulous driver. Was awarded the Italian equivalent of Knighthood there. A hero of mine and a name I use on several boards.
