Just for my piece of mind, I would like honest opinion on ball park appraisal. First the car is a 1975 euro (someone said for Italy) 3.0 csi. The engine is a 1979 euro 3.5 litre from a 735i. It has D-Jet. Dogleg 5speed, w/ what I believe to be a 3.64 LSD. Optima battery. I have rebuilt the fuel pump, replaced fuel lines, slave cylinder and a few other minor parts. I have new seatbelts(not installed yet), new still in box cylinder head(Came w/ car), almost all new front suspension parts including ctr track, ball joints, seals, bearings, etc.(Still in box).. differential bump(still in box) along w/ new boots for differential swap. Set of BBS RS1's, set of rial basketweave(neither set on car) Body is straight w/ a few little bubbles behind front wheels. Also in-tank fuel filter and gaskets(Stiil in box) . extra new pertronix. Momo steering wheel and shift knob. Extra shock tower. When I purchased the car, An M.D. had set it up for slalom. It has been lowered w/ bilsteins all around. A 3.5 inch saddle height jack will just go under the rail. The car is black w/ blue velour, but I recovered front seats in blue microsuede. I am sure there are more new parts I havent listed as I am doing this by memory and not inventory.
Also I purchased a U.S 1981 633csi w/ crate engine, 3.2 litre w/ about 40k on it. It also has a sideloader of either 3.25 or 3.45. unfortunately it is A/T. also numerous switches, relays, and parts galore that w/ interchange. Body is straight w/ tan leather, although I bought it for parts only. It has bmw factory wheels(very plain)
I am looking for seasoned opinions.

Is the car running? Where did it live when it came from Italy? From your description I visualize a 11-16k$ car, but pictures would help. No offer is implied. The pluses and minuses for me are:

Euro +
Italy +
CSi +
5 speed + (I like CR, not everybody does)
spare cylinder head in a box -
new suspension parts in boxes -
BBS -
rust bubbles -
spare shock tower --
lowered slalom setup -
bilsteins +
black -
non-leather +

It is a daily driver unless it rains. I will post some pics. I do not understand the minuses for all the new spare parts. The doctor I purchased the car from owned 8 or 9 bmw's at the time and had scavenged parts, extra shock tower, and various other parts from Germany while stationed there. When I get extra money, I try to buy ahead. Thinking of redoing front suspension only when needed, but ctr track bar was on back order at time so I just started buying up parts I may need. I also have extra headlights, oil filters, etc, etc. Also, the BBS, and Rial wheels are just extra, not on car! The rust bubbles I understand. The slalom setup, w/ the dogleg and the low geared LSD makes this car a like driving a supercharged go-kart on steroids. Its not getting from a to b, its how much fun getting there

Whoa Frank, don't take Arde's comments too personally. Everyone has an opinion, and he was just expressing his. Another prospective e9 owner might like the idea of a "supercharged go-kart ..." Hey, you just need to find one buyer.

I guess the ding on supplying replacement shock towers is that it suggests the car has rust in that area.

We are awaiting pictures before giving you numerical answers.

Of course, listing it on ebay is another way to establish price (as well as get it sold). Guys like me who aren't in the market for another coupe can critique your car and throw out prices all day long, but what really matters is what a series buyer is willing to pay.

I probably mistook so many important parts in boxes (head, suspension, shock tower) as the car being an ongoing project rather than just planning ahead. I am still torn on whether a "scavenging doctor" previous owner is a + or a -.

Look forward to the pictures.

Not a show, but a daily driver. Shift boot out getting replaced. Noticed small amt of cancer in spare wheel well, driver door bottom front, and driver back wheel, as shown in pics. More pics coming

sorry if I came back strong Arde, nothing intended. I just try to get as many parts as I run across. I know she is not a beauty queen, but has potential. I love driving this car!

As Peter S. would say the 'money shot' is usually the front fender seams. These have the telltale signs of something going on underneath, it looks like they have been repaired and maybe not all that well in the distant past. (pic #14) Hope that is not the case.

Yes, that front fender seam is usually the first area to rust on these cars, and the damage there can be serious. If we could get "hands on" with this car, it would be easier (your pictures are great, but nothing subsitutes for rapping a knuckle on the paint or better still, applying a magnet).

In addition to the fender seam, I see potential problems in photos #

16 ) The door seems too far shut - at best a misaligned latch, at worst the panel behind the door is built out with filler.

18 ) The outer rocker isn't fitting properly - at best simply bent body metal, at worst rust bubbling behind it.

20 ) Rust coming through paint

26 ) Console looks disassembled (this will turn off a prospective buyer)

So, what is it worth? I am going to guess the $9K - $12K range, but would welcome others' opinions.

keep critique coming as I am learning more about the coupe. Thanks to all who lent their knowledge and experience. I was just trying to see if I overpaid or what. Just the thrill of driving this car has returned my money several fold. I think I am probably more in line w/ 8-10k range, and w/ all the parts, 633csi, and 3 sets of rims, close to break-even. The leather bootshift is getting replaced, that is why it is out Just to see what it looked like, I replaced one of the chrome window swithed to black bezel. the chrome plastic is not as appealing to me. Again thanks, I'll get my magnets out!

Hi Guys-also a what's it worth

I have the opportunity to purchase a 1972 3.0 csi
It is a single owner car from the Midwest that has only been driven in the summers. Owner purchased it new and is a car collector. The car has about 42,000 miles on it. It an automatic with sunroof and factory ac. The car is perfect. Seriously everthing is perfect, I can find nothing that shows any age. I love this car and would like to buy it but I do not know what the market is for such a car. I can not find anything like it for sale.

I would really appreciate any feedback on this. It may be a stretch for me but I don't want to let this opportunity pass.

Regards,

Myles
