M-YM709 was one of 10 early production Batmobiles.

Of these ten cars, seven were kept for BMW themselves and three were sent to the BMW dealership in the Canary Islands.

The two first were test cars, manufactured end of June 1973.
It looks like they were never road registered (but I could be wrong).

The 3rd one was manufactured on July 12th and delivered the next day to BMW’s Sales/Marketing division.
It had the registration M-YM313.

The 4th car is M-YM709, the one posted above.
Manufactured on July 17th, it was delivered to BMW Motorsport on July 18th.

These four first cars were Chamonix white.

5th, 6th and 7th were delivered to Sauermann, the BMW dealer in the Canary Islands. They were manufactured between July 18th and 20th, two were Chamonix and one was Polaris.

8th, 9th and 10th were manufactured on July 31th, just before the summer holiday break.

One was Golf yellow (!) and I have no idea what they did with it.
The two others were used as press cars : one in Chamonix with registration plates M-CE104 and one in Polaris with registration plates M-CE360.

The wheels on this picture are very very special.

They are early production 7x14 Mahle Basketweaves, made in very limited number.
These were almost prototypes, although they were occasionnally advertised for sale to the public (GS-Tuning advertisements).

If you look closely you will notice that they have a unique design, which was abandonned in September 73.

I know only 3 surviving sets (all three in the hands of current or past members of this forum !).

BMW used these early Mahle wheels on three cars :
M-YM313, M-YM709 and M-AW544.

Re M-AW544 : it was an early injected CSL, which they used for testing the aerodynamic kit and for testing different configurations of Motorsport stripes. It was the car they used for the homologation of the aerodynamic kit with the FIA.
There are pictures of this car driven by HJ Stück or posing near the newly winged race cars at Diepholtz (DRM race on July 15th).
