Does anyone have an idea of which type of wood the standard wood version of the 'bus wheel' is used for the E9?
When I was refurbishing this steering wheel, a year ago, i sanded through the very thin veneer layer. I tried to fill in the holes with new veneer, but after looking at the result (attached pics), I decided the veneer i used isn't the right colour adn grain, I have to search for a better match.

I know the wood of the dash is an oak, but I doubt if the wheel is, it looks to yellow for my eye to be oak. What type of wood is used for the wheel? It resembles my (non coated )teak dining room table.
I added some pics in shade and in direct outdoor sunlight as colours can be tricky on screens.

In the second picture you can actually make out the composition of the different layers. What I did not expect was how thin the actual veneer was. It is a thin layer (1 mm on face) sandwiched to a white textile backing, itself being baked/glued with something hard and black, on a wood core. All that is probably supported by a steel ring.

Knowledge is power; sand very lightly if you want to have a go yourself.

Wheel is Mahogany over a textile steel covered rim. You can strip the wheel and re-veneer it with adhesive backed Mahogany and it will be very nice. The factory used a very tough stained finish.

If you make a tape template, put layers of tape on the wheel and peel it off and lay it as flat as possible you will see the veneer needs to be an arc not a circle to wrap around the wheel properly. I did mine in 5 pieces 2 on the front and 3 on the back.
