Loctite 495 is the correct material. Comes in a small bottle that goes a long way. Use sparingly. The less put on the better it holds. I can’t comment on the 3M glue because that’s not what I used, but I do know the 495 is awesome.so far im using the bottom corners of the "front " for the upper left and right corners of the new orientation, then will cut the right angles for the new bottom l and r corner, waiting on glue , 3m instant, if i search for 495 I get "loctight" a different brand
Not sure this is in the thread, but what I did was make sure the curve at the top, left and right fit well enough, but doubly sure the 90° bottom corners fit as well as I could make them. The sides top and bottom will be too long, but these are easily cut and pasted because they’re straight cuts. The more precise and straight you can make the cut the better it will look just be careful when you stick it! That being said, I now recall that it didn’t really matter because if you stuck it incorrectly, or you don’t like the fit ,and you left yourself enough slack you could always do it again, and again! You just don’t want to get too short.
After I had it to my satisfaction, I used plastic wrap on a roller and secured it and left it for a couple of months on the windscreen.
If you’re not familiar with windshield installation, Dick Steinkamp posted a pretty good video which I followed to some extent. Lynn seed oil works excellent just don’t get it on the part you want to seal, just the part with the rope in it.
Also, contrary to what Dick posted, that the material comes off with soap and water, and, not to contradict him, but be very careful with the black sealing glue. It is extremely difficult to get off and if it dries, it will not come off painted surfaces. You will have to sand it off, basically and repaint which believe me is a pain in the ass. The Lindseed oil, and other substances ,will remove it before it dries, but you have to be very quick. I wouldn’t worry about the inside of the car but use it sparingly on the part of the gasket that attaches to the outside. Having at least two persons and possibly as many as you can get with rags helps. Also, since this is not a stock gasket, be sure to seat the windshield correctly and get it where you want it before pulling the string/rope. It’s difficult to adjust after it’s seated. The windshield suction clamps will help a lot. It’s also advisable to remove the rear trunk lid as you will undoubtedly have to lean on it, sit on it etc.
Lessons learned.
