Looking for a couple decent front strut mounts for the Bavaria project. Cost of new mounts is prohibitive for this car at this point, but bearing in drivers' side is about to come apart and needs to be replaced.

Looks like the part is shared across E3, E9, E12 and E12 based E24 cars.

Thanks!

I would be interested to know if the e24 would fit, lot cheaper. Classic supply/demand thing. I found them for about 90 bucks each but that was 4 years ago.

Chris, do you perceive any difference in the construction of the e12 mounts?

Correct me if I am wrong but they changed in '74 right? Can someone comfort that the e12 mounts with with older e3/e9's?

They look almost identical, I just put them in the 2800, they use same as e9. I didn't know the 74 changed, the control arms did.

Thanks

Thanks for the replies--

Parts finders from all the big retailers (Turner, Pelican, BavAuto etc) seem to return the same part number of 31 33 1 101 663 for E3, E9, E12 and early E24 chassis. As far as I can tell these all sell for more than $250 each.

Anyone have a link for the $80 E12 strut mount?

Perhaps you are just getting old!

RealOEM shows that the strut housing changed in 9/73 which was the start of 74 production for the US. I think the control arm also changed at this time. Prior to that the e3 and e9 part numbers were the same.

Strut yes but not the bearing.

Also, I replaced the long studs with short ones as Luis did so add a few more bucks for those.

Go figure. I've never referred to a strut bearing as a "strut mount". BMW lingo... Joke fail!!!

I had the longer studs and once in the car and weight bearing, I put a die on each stud, screwed it down, then cut the stud with an angle grinder then backed off the die to recut any threads I trashed.

That works too. On an e3 there is no dome nut to hide the cut so I just replaced ours with the shorter bolts, they tap right out.
