I've got a gas smell issue in my 1970 2800CS. The gaskets on the two gauge senders I have are pretty hard and now that I've got fuel back in the tank, the garage smells.

Does anyone have a source or the specs for the size of the O ring so I can buy one locally? I'm assuming it's an O ring though both of mine look pretty rectangular at this point after years of being installed. Thanks.

Yes, it's an O ring. I don't know its size, but you could get the large diameter by measuring the groove in the sender. The smaller diameter might be harder to determine precisely; I'd guess ~1/8" = 3 or 4 mm.

part number 16111744369
diameter 58.8 x 4.2
its still available $6.15 from getbmwparts.com / msrp from BMW is only 7.28 so its not worth paying shipping ... call your local dealer
That's amazing. I wouldn't have guessed that the same dimensions would carry over through the generations to the present. But I guess if it's not broken, don't fix it.

Thanks

I have the O ring in hand now as the dealer got it in stock overnight and was only a short detour from our trip to Costco. Unfortunately, their MSRP wasn't the $7.28 reported by getbmwparts.com but was $13.24. Tax brought the total to $14.23, still the cheapest OEM BMW part I'll ever buy from a dealer.
Hopefully this will reduce/prevent the gas smell in my trunk.
