WTB: Original Pebra Key Blanks

So is this the right place? And Blaine is my go to? Thanks.

Sent the Pebra blanks to Santa Monica Lock today and spoke to Blaine. He's working on the locks right now and will make the keys from the Pebra blanks and test them with the ignition and all the locks before he sends everything back next week!

the only thing you can do with those keys is to rekey your locks to those keys. i'm just glad that we have a few options. including getting new keys cut from BMW. Thanks for your reference of SM Tyson, i will put them on the Best Sources FAQ

And if anyone’s wondering, Blaine is still at Santa Monica Lock & Safe (met him today while having a key made for the coupe) and he still has the Perbra blanks, but only the all-metal ones without the black plastic top. He mentioned that he’s running low on those as well, but hopefully he’ll keep the cutting machine once they’re gone if you’re able to supply him with a blank.

There are other locks out there that use dimple keys so I would be surprised if they didn't keep the cutting machine. However one lock shop I checked with a few years back said they had a machine for those locks, but it was broken, so i guess just because SML&S has one doesn't mean it will always be functional.

The original keys are still available from BMW too with the plastic cap and BMW logo.

Yes they are.

Hmm, just ordered one in the Netherlands; ourselves are not identical. No 'pebra', oval head.
Functional, but my originality quest isn't satisfied.

....same same I received a while ago when somebody told me "originals are still available with BMW". Feels like lottery.20251125_153615.jpg

...ouch ... all are the same part number. Some are 100% original Pebra, the good stuff, others are similar but generic blanks...

I had ordered my blanks in Germany in 2024 and had my locks recoded to fit one key last winter...

My original keys did not have the plastic cap. They were all metal with the BMW stamp and key code. Did the early keys come without the plastic?

Sounds like you're describing the valet key which starts the car but can't open the glove box or trunk.

I have two valet keys that don't have the totally round head. I also have the one that works on all the locks that has the full round metal head with no plastic cap.

Blaine at Santa Monica Lock and Safe said the same thing about my keys when I explained what I had. He used the code stamped in my original round metal head key to make a spare key and the key machine made a perfect fit for my coupe for all my locks. I did not get a spare for my valet key because I never use them.
