Yup.That is an Overdrive ZF box.
Yes, the last one I sold was for a Ford Escort Mk 1…. Delivered it to San Diego the fellow had two, one of which was an ex ETCC car that had been driven by Ronnie Peterson, he wanted the OD box for his street car. I understand why someone would need a CR box for something like a race prepped BDA engine but why did BMW use them behind an M30 street engine? We have a nice flat tourque curve. Most of the time people who use a CR find theat they are unhappy with their diff ratio. The street cars that had a CR had a 3.07 rear gear, again the M30 has enough tourque to pull that. What do you gain for the cost of a CR box?All ZF boxes are rare nowadays.
Having owned and driven OD and CR boxes, in E9s both on road and track, and an OD in a road E3, I will say that the choice will be regional or application specific, or simple user preference or need. The CR box gets you out of the corner or off the line quicker, where as the OD is a better cruiser or intercontinental bomber (love the OD in the Bav on I-5!). Now that I am in the Sierra Foothills with only 2 lane hwys and backroads, the CR box is 'choice'. When and if I lived in the valley or flats with a lot of interstate time, the OD box would be 'the way'. On track, I much prefer the CR box to the OD box..........
