Trans-cont E9 road trip + carb altitude talk..

Shipping

I've spoken with Jim at Intercity Lines transport. If we were flexible on shipping times, i.e. Did not ship during Pebble Beach and the Scotsdale auction, we could rent an entire closed truck, 6 Coupes "maybe 7" shipped San Francisco to Boston for $11,000 total or $1833/Coupe assuming 6 Coupes.

There is likely some wiggle room, perhaps if we can be flexible on scheduling.

Another data point.

Update: 6 Coupes max. 15'3" per Coupe=6 max in the transport.

I'd be on board for a Gunball run in an e9. I always wanted to make a video a la Rendevous in A Coupe as well, in the L.A. area. I think it would be a worthy homage to the original...

Yes, film Rendevous driving like crazy through San Francisco at dawn.
Now I am in, I pack, I take a shower and I am off to this cross country adventure.
But wait, I am already here. Hurry up. I will start auditioning actresses for the last scene.

:-) Believe me. I have plenty of actresses down here that would also love to play that part (or I would love for them to play that part). Your location does sound better though. I'm picturing some lift-offs over a crest and winding sequence down Lombard st....

Imagine 10+ coupes filling Lombard! Ha, what a sight!

Think global, act local.
Therefore the actresses must be local.

Happy to offer rte suggestions as ya roll thru Northern CA.

I-5 is a bit boring south from Redding to SF, however there are some phenomenal 'back roads' in between.

;-)

Looks like a ton of fun. I would happily join from SF down to SoCal, but echoing Shanon I-5 would probably not be my first choice.

Even though the U.S. trip sounds like so much fun, I'd probably have to join the caravan as it goes through northern CA and just cruise with you guys for one day. A 2015 trip does sound like something my wife and I would love to do though. I'd have to put in a 5spd. ;-)

+1 on installing a 5 speed. I also need some proper seat belts.

It looks like 2015 is emerging as the target date. Practically, it also looks as though the crossing will be in one direction, with the coupes being shipped the other.

I'd like to do the CA leg of the trip then welcome any Gumball coupers here in New Orleans. Am putting this on the radar.

Starts with T, rhymes with C, that stands for Coupe

I just committed to:
--MidAmerica 02Fest in late April (3000 miles RT)
--Sharkfest in early May
--The Vintage in late May

You guys are going to get me in so much trouble...

Rob, we are targeting 2015, the wife-permission-clock (made by VDO, btw) resets on car events at midnight New Years Eve 2014/2015. You're in the clear! :D

I'm assuming a trip of this magnitude would take a year + of planning, car preparation and the like.

For others following the thread, this is intended to simply be a fun road trip. If there are folks (Stevehose ?) from the South, we could hopefully coordinate routes and timing to gather in CA. However, that also means that hopefully our CA Coupe friends would reciprocate (2017?) for a Fall drive through New England. Maybe Mario at VSR would let us stage in New Hampshire. All ideas welcome. (Except Stan's 14,000 mile global circumnavigation route ! ). :D

https://roadtrippers.com choose "Scenic Drives"

Start saving to buy the wives something glittery from Jared's.

Yes I'd really like to get my car out there and do the PCH and other roads in CA. After my Amelia Island venture is done I'll broach this with the wife

Jared's

Tom, if we "went to Jared's" with that kind of coin, we'd just come home with a set of Alpina open lugs. We'd find them. They'd find us. It would happen.
