Yannick,

Thank you for your kind filling in of the gaps, I now feel a little more informed and grateful :)

As you say, BMWs and typos are not unheard of.

Very nice to hear from you, hope you are well.

Pete

P.S.
Stevehose , just a small correction....I think you have mixed up your left and rights :)

Hi Pete,
As Yannick wrote, code 99 was used for cars with client requests as regards the paint. This was very visible for the M1. Several cars were delivered with code 99 (e.g. Procars - "Grundiert").

Congrats to the very first 2002 Turbo. White and Polaris were the most common colors of this classic. Most common? Yes, there was (at least) one 2002 Turbo painted in "Schwarz".

For the CSL-Geek collection of facts for the Sunday dinner topics: if I remember correctly, the 110 Bat series one were sold new to 12 different countries. Only one customer in a non- European country got this kind of Bat new from factory.

Cheers
Henric

Hi Yannick and Henric

Definitely at Le Mans classic next year, one of my favorite events for car fun and catching up with old friends :) Sadly not at OGP, I will miss that fun.

Great exchange of information gents, much appreciated

After my research into the 2002 Turbos colours, I can add to our geekiness gentlemen :).
I found out there were 1049 Chamonix (white) 615 Polaris ( silver) 1 Tiaga (green) 1 Schwarz (black) 1 Tampico ( beige) 1 Inka ( Orange) 1 Pastellblau (blue) 1 Jadegrun (green) 1 Verona (red). So basically it looks like 7 cars that were not white or silver.

Best

Pete

Since we have the experts on the line, does anyone know the original manufacturer's list price for a CSL? (Any or all variants?)

Great question.....Ive never seen any info on this or copies of sales docs like we have for the more mainstream e9 models. Hopefully some owners out there might even have original paperwork.

No idea. How about 16.900 list price for a carb CSL in nonmetallic paint with no radio nor AC.

I found an old SCM article, on a Bat at auction, which stated MSRP was $15,000. Not sure whether the Bat was series 1 or 2. For comparison a '73 CS was $11,000.

Correction, it was $13,500 not $15,000 and from re-reading the text it is clear they were referring to non-Bat CSLs even though the subject car of the article was a Bat.

CSL prices in Germany:

Aug 1972 - 3003ccm D-Jet : 31'245 DM (same price for light and citypack)
Aug 1973 - 3153ccm D-Jet : 35'700 DM
Mar 1974 - 3153ccm D-Jet : 37'580 DM
Aug 1975 - 3153ccm D-Jet : 38'860 DM

Not 100% sure, but I believe the 1971-72 carburetted CSLs were also 31'245 DM

Do you suppose that BMW Classic or the Archive would have a few samples of window stickers as the CSL variant goes through its evolution. I'm curious if it was included as a base price (CSL as a separate model like M4 vs. 435i) or if it was priced on the sticker as an option.

Thanks for the great info.

The CSL was always referenced as a separate model.
Even the 169 early carburetted cars were marketed as a specific model, although their VINs were mixed with the 3.0CS VINs.

What were the weights of the CSLs? The early stripped ones VS the "city pack" models??

And the price for time machines just went up....I'll take 2 @15k (semi hand-made by skilled craftsman--except those karman hooligans...!)
