It was a long way from the idea to the first samples

Ha ha - yes I did. And now am faced with what to do. I have managed to acquire a set of fair grilles in chrome. I also have the original black grilles in less than fair condition. Now I have the ability to spend MORE MONEY on a new set of reproduction grilles, which would no doubt look nicer than anything I have currently. But then I have (3) sets!!! Restoring an e9 is kind of a sickness. :D

Look Awesome quality and prices look good ... but to expensive to import to the UK
 
Since I recently paid $400 for a pair of NOS chrome side grilles, this price seems more than fair, if a little tardy for me. I stayed with the black bonnet grilles, since my car is black, as I don't see those as a styling element like the side grilles, but I might get some chrome ones now, just in case I change my mind down the road. Thanks W+N!
 
I apologize for my ignorance, however can someone please educate me on the significance of chrome vs black ? Were there certain models that had chrome vs black ? Thank you.
 
Others will surely provide a more historically accurate response. But I believe it depended on the paint color. A Polaris Silver car would have had black grills, I think - for contrast. And a black car would have had chrome, for the same reason. If this is not the "official" reason, then I guess it is simply my opinion. :D

i have 2 sets of chrome hood grilles and 1 set of chrome fender grilles ... i might buy a set of fender grilles to compare ... then have 2 new sets and an old set
