The high bidder of this auction has decided to pass on the purchase, which is not cheap to do, but we managed to get undercarriage photos of the car from Copart before paying for it and it is NOT restored. The damage from the accident is pretty substantial but still repairable in my opinion, but the front of the floor pans where they meet the rockers are completely rusted through and there has to be more. I've seen worse CSi's, for sure, but this car isn't worth what price it reached in the auction. I'm posting the photos here so others know more about this car.

@dang,

To clarify, did your company pick this up?
No. The winning bidder contacted me and I was able to get Copart to take those extremely helpful photos. They went above and beyond. He had to pay some re-list fees but I think he dodged a bullet.

Dodged a bullet
I'll say. Me too. I was looking for a donor for a widebody project but not counting on having to pull frame, rebuild front suspension, fix floorpan and rocker rust etc in addition to the body and engine mods.

Indeed, this is not for the faint of hart

Just getting the impact damage back to the pre impact state would already set you back, what, 15, 20k usd if you outsource it?

Then there is the while-your-at-it factor; what to do with the floors and sills?
I would tackle it all, as at least 50% the front of the car need to come off already. And it needs a full repaint anyway. Count another 20k for that in a shop.

At that point you have a decent, freshly painted body with a ok-isch engine, trim and interior, a bit of a mismatched thing in my view.

Parts car perhaps, sad but the ins co probably made the right call. Front end damage is always the worst kind because it's easier to find donor cars (ie parts) that have front end damage than rear.

I'm guessing the insurance company had no idea what to do with this car except be done with it..

It took a few bidders to get it as high as it went. I suspect that there will be strong bidding again, particularly since none of the undercarriage photos are displayed.

Pre-bid is half what it was last at this time for the first auction. We'll see. Unless the bidders saw the car in person or happen to see this thread they won't know the about important stuff.

Nevermind. Pre-bid is now over $20k.

I'm confused. What was the final bid/sale price? $44k?

If so, that would be absolutely insane.

Even these days, half that can buy a much better car.

Looks like the final on this sale was 36 large (I think $44 was the last sale). Still big money for a car with these needs.

Thanks for sharing the video @dang!

This has to be the same crashed coupe that I posted pictures of a while back. The accident happened right across the street from my house ! My Son heard it and was afraid when he saw the CS tail lights in the neighbors front yard, he though it was me. It clipped a pole and ended up on the lawn.

I believe it was brought out from NY about a year ago, not sure if it was really an East Coast car though. I met the owner several times at my business and around town. I tried to buy the car before it was wrecked and after to avoid it being a salvage title, but no go.
