in your photo of the primed parts hanging, where does that bracket in the middle go?
I was hoping to ask you folks!!!

It was in bag marked (pedal bracket) with all of my pedal stuff. So I am assuming it goes somewhere around the pedals. The small wedge shaped piece over at the far hub attaches to it...

That bracket mounts on the brake booster. I think it attached to the firewall in some way and also supports the radiator overflow tank. That's my best guess!

I could be wrong…I think it mounts to the back of the brake booster and in turn the coolant overflow tank forward mounting point bolts to it. The back of the overflow tank mounts to the firewall.

If you expand this picture you can see the bracket under the tank.

OK, this makes sense. The round cutout matches the brake booster mounting tube on the pedal box..

Whew. I was wondering where that went!!

OK, here's a question for those sage ones...

I went to assemble my struts today. Dropped the strut into the tube and tried to screw down the gland nut... no-go...

Seems like the yellow strut housing is about 8-10 mm too long for the gland nut to actually secure to the strut tube.

Part number appears to be correct, and the strut tube depth is 16 7/8" which is what AI says the strut tube spec is...

Do I have some weird strut variant?

Food for thought?

Food for thought?

Gland nut is the same both sides. Both strut tubes are the same length. Car has never been seriously crashed. Wondering if the strut tubes have a spacer in the bottom. I’ll go check that and the old strut length tomorrow

The original Boges had a bit of oil in the bottom.
Yeah, this was a dry fit. Clearly the strut is too long for the strut tube. Been corresponding with Carl Nelson, who sold me this kit. He says there are multiple combinations, and assured me we would work out the right setup. I am sure it will all sort out.

Problem solved...

I tried the other strut and strut tube, and it all went together perfectly.

It turned out that one of the strut housings had a small burr raise around the top edge of the cassette casing that was preventing the gland nut from sliding down over the end of the cassette.

I filed that down and it went together fine.

Thanks to @sfdon and Ed for sending some pics and explaining how it was supposed to go together.

I gotta say, those Bilsteins are MUCH more robust than the Konis I removed from the car. The Konis had thin little strut rods about 20 mm in diameter. The Bilsteins are about 36 mm dia!

One of my upcoming tasks next time I'm with my car! Looking forward to seeing how it sits.
