My 1974 Inka S38B35 project

I was looking at the S38 motor photos and wanted to ask a question.. I see your individual throttle bodies, the fuel rail and the injectors.. very nice.

What are the six taps on your exhaust manifold? Were you running individual O2 sensors on each cylinder (to measure fuel/air mixture) while tuning the ECU on the dyno?
That is a S38B36 manifold with the secondary airpump deleted on it. Could be used for tuning too probably yes :)

Question for people who have restored the aluminium trim line - it seems to be coated. Chrome? I can sand down the surface coating to bare aluminium and polish, but longetivity is lost. Some have deep scratches. Any suggestions?

That is shine anodized.
You have to deanodize them before you will have success with polishing.
Then when you have polished out all scratches an anodizing company could new shine anodized them.

Breiti

They can anodize them. The problem is that those older parts have pits of oxidation in them that become apparent after anodizing. It rarely looks good. It must have to do with the quality of the parts as anodizing Porsche 911 window frames works great. It's also very hard to find someone that does bright dip anodizing.

i would be happy to buy new ones, no suppliers in EU though. I will try polish and cerkote or similar or maybe go with glass beading and light shine if that gives a reasonably good result

For small parts (e.g. 3.0 symbol) I use sink unclog (natron).
On youtube or chat gpt you can find simple methods.

Damn, I do not know how I missed it earlier - WN has the full kit. I will not bother restoring mine, ordered new

the new ones are made in SE Asia by a company that also makes the e9 taillights. they make a lot of things for the 2002 also. early verdict on their products for the e9 are very good, not perfect.

I am also on the hunt now for good condition or renovated door sill cover chrome and window mouldings, preferably in Europe. Any hints appreciated!

door opening 2 parts, L+R and window outer chrome front-back L+R)

trunk lock and some chrome sorted, I went with the W&N side moldings + took the inner/outer door sills to be replicated in stainless steel. Let's see how those work out.
Putting the car together with "new" parts is satisfying, but a constant mental fight now to only use refreshed parts - every bracket, bolt and nut needs to be "as good as possible", cleaned, rechromed, freshly zinced etc. So small parts and everything takes time. Some progress shots below
