    Don't let the smoke out!

Okay, it's a new ground strap for me, at least. Thanks guys; I note also that Mike Goble's picture of his engine with the Rochester Quadrajet (it's in another thread) seems to show a ground cable from the back runner of his intake manifold, presumably connected to the firewall. Another coupe...

Adjustment so hood goes closes without having to jiggle it

Yeah the cable can be adjusted, but make sure you have a way to open the latches if you get the cables too long and they don't work as intended. My hood on my '73 has always been sticky this way, both to close and also to open it. I fiddled with the cables once but decided to back off before I...

    Speedometer jumping

I thought (but never had to address) needle jumping could be caused by a kinked speedo cable housing, which would grab, then release, the inner speedo drive unit. If the inner can't be retracted from the housing, is there a visible kink in the cable housing?

Original Carburetor replacement on original engine and injection engine?

I've heard of the euro intake that allows single American carbs to be used, but how/where does one get such a thing? They must be DECADES old across the pond and with increasing taxes on older cars, many old M30s would have gone to their just reward (or simply melted away in place). @MikeGoble...

    Don't let the smoke out!

I thought that I could have put the jumper wires backwards but I like to think I'm not THAT careless. The "only source of current" noted above is the key (maybe). I also question the starter, which was getting reluctant to turn the engine. It would work fine after several attempts with the...

    Don't let the smoke out!

Thanks for those thoughts, Scott. Failure of the alternator would seem to be ruled out since O'Reilly got it to work on their tester. Another thought: just how/where is the engine grounded to the body? Although I've not removed anything (lately) that would seem to have served the purpose of...

    Synchronization of downdraft carbs

I think the idea is that carbs be balanced at baseline without connection to linkage; then reconnect the linkage and adjust the knurled bit at mid-range to achieve balance. Although it would be nice that they balanced throughout the range of motion, that may not be possible. I'm waiting for...

It is a tax on American consumers - pure and simple.. The latest from Pelican

Hold on there, the Orange Guy wants blanket 15% tariffs now. We're not out of the woods. Does anyone think the "$292 Billion" figure is correct?

    Car will not start

I'm in a somewhat similar situation, car won't crank, and the alternator light on the dash doesn't come on when I turn the switch. When you turn the key, does the alternator light come on and the oil pressure indicator light up? If you get the dash lights working so can then assume the...

Pop in visit to meet a fellow forum member

One of the reasons 2002s have so much head room is that the seats cushions by now are bagged out, turned to dust. I might know, having been 6'6" since high school, and having had 15 of the little critters. I've re-stuffed front and rear seats with a variety of materials. Wish I hadn't sold...

    Coupe Ancestry project - summary

225057, 3.0CS, Baikal, originally auto trans now 5-speed, inoperative living in my garage in Honolulu. Originally from California, through another Hawaii resident, to me in about 1985. I know of only one other coupe still in Hawaii, partly b/c I've lost track of several or they've returned to...

    Electronic Distributors

You should evaluate whether your timing is stable before throwing a new diz into the mix. I'd connect a timing light and see whether/how much the timing jumps around at various rpms. Only then, if the timing is not steady, you can start to consider why/not. Consider that the diz is driven by...

    Windshield replacement

It is speculated that the narrow pillars supporting the roof make it particularly susceptible to deformation before and/or after the windshield glass is removed. You won't know until the glass is out. Remove the old glass intact if at all possible (may destroy the gasket) and compare to new...

    Coupe Outline Image, Line Drawing

Not to resurrect this thread from the dead, but I will... Cleaning up and out my 'pooter I came across a site with drawings of ALL KINDS of cars, see it here: http://carblueprints.info/eng/marks/bmw

    Weber 38/38 fuel leak advice

Assuming that "venturi" means the flared bit at the center of the throat, I had that on my '69 2500, never did solve it. At the time I suspected the carb float was not floating enough, or somehow the fuel level in that carb was too high, causing overflow via the venturi. That's mostly how...

The actual wording of Tariff code 9903.01.33 that is kicking our ass.

    Don't let the smoke out!

Car is manual, converted from AT to 4-speed, then 5-speed. It worked when parked. I spent a considerable time figuring out the start sequence from the electrical diagrams and I *think* I took out all the wiring made extraneous by the trans swap(s). It ran for years in all three trans...

    Coupe Outline Image, Line Drawing

Ron Harnisch (sp?) back in the days of the E9 Register (-try?) did some drawings and I may have kept them .... somewhere. I'll scan and post if I can find them, but it was likely over 20 years ago and not presently sure where that stuff is/went.

    Don't let the smoke out!

Oh, I've push started many a car and my bikes as well. I live 800 feet up a ridge behind Diamond Head. OTOH if the car doesn't start, I'll have to bug my pal for his Tacoma and tow strap. Now all that's lacking is the mental energy to actually perform the work.
