the difference is simple - coupeking's coupe ran, had reworked brakes, was safe to drive and had the original tranny + engine. it was very much worth what it sold for and you had a thorough evaluation by a coupe specialist. i had a conversation with Peter about that car as i was considering buying it ... and probably would have if another coupe hadn't come into play. you simply cannot compare the two cars.

and NO, Motorcar Studio is not shill bidding this car, they are ethical people ... and they do NOT own this car, they are simply selling it on consignment. the slant nose black porsche to the side of this coupe belongs to a good friend of mine.
 
Those are some very telling pictures you presented Scott. I agree that this and the CoupeKing car cannot be compared like for like. Good for the seller and still over two days to go!

Them pictures don't say much to me except that its an old unrestored car.

Of course it cant compare, but for 12k difference it sure can.

At least you can see under the tar pads of this car, but god forbid it has overspray on the strut spacers haha

Yeah don't get me wrong I wouldn't have been surprised if that car sold for more. I loved that car and the originality of it, I also really cant stand red. That's one of the best original coupes i've seen in a wild and you can totally tell it was dry. But you can compare anything depending on monetary value. Whoever bought that car for 32 did good. I hope it stays in the condition its in if it surely is original paint.

I still think the green car is a great car to be considered, and i'm not disagreeing with you because you're mad at me that you didn't buy my housings... I just think its a good base.

Ive bought so many cars sight unseen I can generally get an idea of condition of cars. And I think I've owned some of the most crappiest e9s on this forum as well :) But bubbles under paint also don't scare me.

I also view neglected cars like cats and dogs in a humane society. After so long and so many junkyard trips and/or looking over fences or driving through trailer park looking under carports you don't get sad, you just become grateful that they still exist, and do your best to bring them home.

Yeah Motorcar studio flips cars, like most ebay dealer flippers they always make me nervous... but thankfully they're nothing like BHCC. I also really like that yellow 02 theyre selling, if its still available. They have great taste.
 
do you really think this car is dry? i see a car that had some significant rust repaired in a questionable way. what i couldn't see was the firewall - with floor pans and inner fenders having been replaced, the adjacent areas of the firewall and the rockers come into concern. the undercar pics make the rockers look suspect.

btw - i don't hold grudges - i said my piece, and i was done ... over ... nothing said in this thread has anything to do with that conversation except your words. i think the green car is a good car at 10k to max 12k ... not 20k. motorcar studio told me that they only expected 8k to 10k.

if motorcar studio owned this car, then maybe you could call them a flipper ... but they do not own this coupe. they are selling it as a consignment for the family of the owner. i am in the process of buying an original coupe, for less money than this and in much better condition and a better color. does it have rusty floor pans - yep. will they be properly replaced - yep. if the firewall isn't sound, the project will not happen.
 
As someone looking to get into a driver E9 in the next year...this one shocks me. I remember passively looking maybe 5 years ago and these cars were maybe $8K? CK's car was awesome, saw it in person at their shop when I was in LA for work, I just wasn't quite prepared to spend $30K+. Working on getting prepared though!

Maybe time to start scoping estate sales in AZ to find a dry body?

Dry enough. If you can find cars like that for 8 or 10k buy them because the inner fenders are going for $3000 as well as the bumpers these days.

And yes I bought my first e9 for $5000 probably 4 years ago and daily drove it. Things sure have changed.

I think we can agree almost all these cars need to be stripped and worked in some way. Good luck finding a coupe that doesn't need new floor pans. Id much rather buy a car that had new inner fenders over new floor pans though. My current welding project.

$24.5k and counting. Man, I just don't understand this market. Seen cars on ebay recently go for a lot less and in better condition.

It's less a market than a bidding battle between two bidders, one of which is very new to eBay and seemingly new to E9 and their issues, as is the other bidder.
 
Well that turned out to be quite a shoot out! I am pretty shocked at the $26,600 final price, but wish the new owner much luck with their new purchase.

truly shocking. i will be talking to Nick + Chris about something else in the near future, so i will find out.
