1974 Coupe on BAT

Chris-- We can debate the Power Mirror thing all day .EVERY late 74 I have ever looked at in the last 40 years had Power Mirror,Later Style Tool Kit and One Piece Front Carpet. Not one car had just the Tool Kit and a Manual Mirror.Don't know what Vin# it started but every one had all three of these features.Where do you get you info on the Power Mirror on LATE Coupes being an Option?

I would much rather debate five bar kidney
grilles and a seemingly original plastic coolant resevoir. :D

4335302 - Trap Mirror

4335832 - Flag Mirror

4335295 - Manual mirror @JMinNJ

4335378 - Trap

Mark, The electric mirror became available at 4310329 and 4335392. Hoffman may have specified this mirror on every coupe he ordered starting with these VINs which is most likely perhaps unless an owner didn't want one. Here is a window sticker where it is shown as optional equipment.

Chris--No apologies needed. That is why we debate this stuff. Even my Lightweight Black Bat has a Power Mirror,go figure

Something called a DEPSTECH 1200P. It’s now $29. I was pretty skeptical, but I’ve had good luck—perhaps it was assembled on feeding day for the “labor.”
I have that same unit. It has worked well for me, too. I've stuffed it down through the spark plug holes to find piano top pistons. :D

The carpet may have changed to one piece in 9/74 based on the parts book page 51/61a (no VINs listed) which is when mirrors changed too.

Toolbox may (?) have changed 4/74, any owners here want to provide their VIN and type of toolbox?

Nice original "hydraulic bumpers."

Makes it sound like they had a switch to pull them closer to the body when not in use. If only.

Chris-- Thanks for that info. This was I have always thought that these changes all happened in Sept of 74.Enough of this stuff and back to what looks like a really Original,Low Mileage,Unmolested, Time Capsule Coupe. Some of the Smog stuff is even still there

FWIW. My 74 VIN 4335295 has stock trapezoid drivers mirror, one piece carpet and early style tool box.

Thanks John! Your coupe was built in July, do you have the build date? All coupes came with trap mirrors until the electric came along.

I now have an April build date coupe with multi piece carpet and a May build with the one piece molded carpet. Waiting to hear from others. (realizing carpets can get replaced)

Chris,
Thanks!
My car has original carpet. I've never inquired with BMW archive on the build dates of my cars. Now that I've got some free time maybe I will.

Since I see that y'all are OK with discussing minutia ;) what is that electrical connector over the area of the t-stat housing and water temp sender?

The BMW plug? Could be read by a technician supposedly to measure coil/wire resistance, mounted at front of valve cover. On a 2002 it was at ear of valve cover. The one on driver’s fender could display dwell, rpm and voltage as well as start the motor without turning on the key.

Mine’s gone, wonder if they removed it when they switched to Pertronix.
