Just whack a 350 small block chevy in there and be done with it.

And before anyone starts, I am hiding in an imaginary wooden box in a secret location that renders me immune to the communal online rotten fruit pelting that I am about to receive for the above comment.
Ahhh…old school. Seems like nowadays the cool kids are dropping LS’s into everything…;)

The voice of reason....can you post a pic of the current state of your coupe?.....How does it look?.....kind of hard to filter through 60+ pages to see how she looks....

Hope it cranks & fires up soon --

This thread will either become a case study for project management students, or a Netflix series.
I really don't want to beat on Alan but there's been no learning here, (or even listening I'd suggest).
How many viable solutions to get this car on the road have been offered but ignored?
Now it seems you are going with 'Logan Redux.' Instead of going with a proven (simpler) solution, throwing some money at it and moving on, the project is stuck at point where you appear to not have the skills to complete, nor the budget to pay for the skills.
I really hope that Logan 2.0 can help move this project but I'll wager we will be back here in a few weeks and nothing will have changed.
Pull the motor and sell it. Use the cash to buy a donor 3.5 as suggested and away you go.

If the compression is that high convert it to Bio diesel. CSD takes on CSE in a great battle of the Greenies!

Frankly, anyone that tells you the factory ecu will run an engine that they haven't seen or don't know anything about seems disingenuous at best or a full blown flim flam artist at worst...I'm with @Wes on this one. Sell the motor and get a known 3.5L and drop it in with the stock ecu and call it done. Once that's done, someone ring Netflix and tell them they have the plot for the next 465 part automotive series...

From the executive producers of F1: Drive to Survive, comes the next epic automotive saga:

4310316: Logan's Run...Away!

"I can't quite figure out why, but I feel like the protagonist is always yelling at me."
-Mortimer Jacobsen, TV Guide

But seriously, I hope you get it going soon - sorted 3.5 for the win!

I am not preaching I know anything electronic for these engines, but keeping a Motorsport derived motor for a BMW that practically started 'M' division seems like a healthy choice.....no matter how tricky -- it should be possible.

What about an m90?...or maybe I haven't done my homework on that one?...diff. change too I would guess.

Best of luck with it,

Another pro-tip for @aearch. If you stagger your wire cuts you won’t end up with a giant lump when you tape the harness back up.

@aearch,

You will not be able to use any factory ECU with that motor. You have different compression and horsepower. If you need a harness, it would only make sense to start with a factory S38 harness.

With that said, I have a good solution to your computer issue that allows you to keep your special motor. Install Weber 50mm DCOE carbs. 123 distributor. Be done with custom ECU’s and wiring harnesses.

It’s been done before, and it is awesome.
Hello, I have a 2800cs I rebuild the engine change the piston to bigger size and install a 3 weber 40 deco and it works the best

I wasn’t picking up on anything negative (on this page).

It is a fact that the factory ECU is tuned for a very specific configuration. That includes displacement, compression, cam profile, injector size, timing, etc. If you mess with any of these the factory ECU may not keep up. There is a reason why companies were (and still are) doing chips and ecu flashes.

You might surf around bigcoupe.com and mye28.com to see what kind of mods the s38 ECU will tolerate.

You are missing the point. Let me break it down.

1.You post asking for advice.
2. Advice is given.
3. Advice is ignored - as is your right.
4. You update thread stating that that there's been no progress and solicit more advice/help.
5. Members point you back to their previous ignored advice, or offers to help.
6. You update thread saying there's been no progress.
7. Return to 1.

I get that you are frustrated mate. Do as you wish, it's your car. Perhaps just stop asking for advice if you've no intention of taking it.

I believe that an executor or a probate officer will be handling the final disposition of this car. Someday, somewhere an ad will pop up offering “As is, where is”.

Some young minded problem solver will scoop it up and make this car a runner again.

My estimate is 100 hours to make this car run and to tune it.

At Alan’s offer of 2000.00 for the job….. As I said…..

And we are done. This story of this thread will be told for years after many of us are long gone.

And trust estate attorneys will showcase this as Alan's very smart way of preserving and passing wealth in light of global instability, brutal capital markets, and rudderless economy stewardship. Valuable classic cars that do not work but could work will be a new asset class to consider.
To be clear, a valuable, expensive, and durable asset that appreciates, and does not depend on mortgage rates. Perfect.

i WAS A BIT OFFLINE
I REALLY DO APPRECIATE ALL OF YOUR COMMENTS AND ADVISE.
PULLING THE ENGINE AGAIN IS REALLY SOMETHING I DONT LOOK FORWARD TO DOING
THATS THE REAL REASON IM TRYING TO MAKE THIS ONE WORK.
FOR SURE THE BEST OPTION IS TO DO JUST THAT AND
GET A REASONABLE ENGINE AS THERE ARE SO MANY TO CHOSE FROM
IF INDEED I CANT GET SOMEONE TO HELP WITH THIS IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS
I WILL PULL IT SELL IT AND GET ANOTHER UNIT
I WOULD LIKE ANOTHER S38 -YET THAT BRINGS UP THE CONDITION ISSUE
I WOULD WANT A FRESH REBUILT UNIT -MIGHT BE QUITE HARD TO FIND
THEN I GUESS I WOULD BE FORCED TO GET A DIFFERENT UNIT
SURELY A REBUILT 3.5 SOMEWHERE.
I WOULD WANT TO GET AN INJECTION MOTOR INSTEAD OF CARBS
SEEMS SO MUCH CLEANER LOOKING .
THEN WERE BACK ELECTRICS AGAIN- SO FOR THAT REASON
CARBS WOULD BE SUCH A SIMPLER PROJECT.
I KNOW THIS ISSUE HAS GONE ON WAY TO LONG
AND I NEED TO FINISH IT UP BEFORE THIS WINTER.
HONEST THANKS FOR ALL THE INPUT TO HELP ME WITH THIS.
