the back view. Tried a spoiler back there but tough to beat the factory look back here.
IMG_5591.JPG.
Before I put the front bumper back
hoping to figure a light bracket for the front using the stock bumper holes
and maybe lose the what ever the over/underriders are called.
image.jpg
i never found a bracket that attaches to the front bumper bracket
or a finishing plate that would replace the over/under riders and incorporate light brackets?

EDit: did not remove tool box, when. I opened the trunk it wa still in there.

IIRC in extreme heat and certain driving/stopping conditions
combined with weber air filters (
vapor lock is possible.
So switch to stock air filter. And install in tank pump to assist

edit: wow! 5 years later.

Every time I go to work on this car
I get the feeling that not a lot of civilians have been here before me.
IMG_5610.JPG

3 or so years ago I put new Webers/peirburg on the car and drive cross country without fuel issue, it's been parked for a while. Now that I am driving it I developed vapour lock issue which developed into a fuel starvation issue. So today roadside repairs called for immediate addition of lo pressure electric fuel pump. Whose wires were too short to connect to anything but the tail lights, so my fuel pump operates when I turn on my lights:)
IMG_5616.JPG
In the short term(pun intended)It solved both issues, vapour lock/fuel starvation issues.

so I guess I won't have to deal with this
IMG_5602.JPG
or in tank ful pump/pressure regulator business.

2023 update.
running ok with electric pump
bypassed manual pump
i wonder if an in tank pump would work?

Resoldered the brass tank and played with tape concept instead of finishing electric fuel pump installation.

Old Bosch spark and coil ends have the screw in terminals making changing copper core wires easy and inexpensive. I just checked the resistance on a few old sets of wires. Each set had different ohms. Depending on the caps and type,of wire.

Someone’s gramma used to say if there is more than one man in a room talking about cars, home improvements, or tools, and a few other things, someone was bound to get hurt.

snip
EDIT

Save your rusted out muffler. If you remove the muffler can with whatever means you have grinder, air chisel, shears, or if you need to take a 3 pound hammer and smash the living daylights out of the can till the welds fail and the muffler can separates from the pipes inside. Now you have factory bent set of pipe spray that you can use to install your muffler if choice.

Snip > Unpleasantness <. Snip

Rare to see an E3 with chrome bumpers and electric windows. The e windows seemed to mostly be on the 75/76 cars. Nice interior. Good to see a Bavaria being taken care of.

Can you get a better picture of that decal in the one car that shows the fuel tank from BMW distributors. I used to work at Vancouver Auto and have been to the old western distribution center down by the end of Granville St right near 70th a few times Might be able to give you more info

Thanks, Rick

Many years ago I parked an old project bav with an m90 + dogleg, in the back yard, between 2 trees. I built a temporary shop beside it and the trees grew. Now, I want to pull the engine/trans but I can’t get the car out and there is no room around it. So, perusing my options, I performed some recent tests,... with a reciprocating saw ...to cut the front rad support, I am happy to say... it is easy for one person to remove a BMW engine with only the factory jack, at least from this 89 535i it was. Not exactly elegant, but hey, I keep a dishwasher shop to clean parts, so what would you expect? So, here is a way to get an engine out when you are in a pinch.....

Note engine on ground.
hopefully this ‘technique‘ will work on the “ bav in the woods “

You people who can finish a car or 2
in a year or 2
! MAKE ME sick with envy !
When I parked the beast
the tree beside it
was a stick
and I planned to finish the car
NOW
the best I hope for is to salvage the M90/265 fuelie

SHORT VERSION:
Any one think they might know the owners
Of this Malaga 2800 from Oregon/California

Long version below:

I have this 1970 Malaga 2800
VIN 2420391
Pictured above and below
And
I recovered some papers
which document
the car is from Portland and was registered to
Dana R + Susan H
for many years about
Ie; Mid 2000s
about 15 years P.C. (Pre- Covid) for those of you you who have already set your y2k calendar ahead
The car also lived in Cali (more papers)

someone really loved this car...
Fiammi air horns, fancy ignition, fancy carbs suspension, fat tires etc..
The body and frame are nickel
I drive it around the yard occasionally
The car ran beautiful right out of the box
I now know what 2800 people say about the free revving engine
Almost as good as a SBC

COVID notwithstanding
it would be a good time to pry it from my fingers

BEFORE
I make it Canadian
(taxes, safety, service, repairs and other things involving money)
I was wondering
(as I usually am)
If anyone might possibly know the previous owners
And if the PO has been pining over it
Please send them my way.

BEFORE
I do that other Canadian thing
(You know-
swap the VIN
sawdust in the tranny
Fill the flat tires
put seam sealer and undercoating over the rust
and then drive it down a dusty road
Spray it with wax-oyl and call it cosmoline
out seat s over all the trashed upholstery
spray the headliner black so it looks cool and you can’t see the mold
You know the drill
