I believe blue stripes were an option too...... like this UK Csl perhaps
Blue would probably suit a number of lighter colors like Fiord and Polaris

According to the parts book, schwarz, dunkelgrun and atlantik were available for all CSLs. Only the BATs it appears were offered with Motorsport stripes in rot/blau/hellblau and it includes the front air dam and rear wing.

Hi there ccr2002

I'd say 13.5". The width of the decal on the Batmobile (photo attached) looks to be slightly less than the width of the rear light unit (approx 16").

I hope this helps!

I would be interested to know whether any UK based members can identify any City Pack cars with any unusual original specification.

Cheers.

Marco

Hi Marco,
My RHD city pack car has front and rear spoilers, and the light weight rear bumper. No front bumper but does have slots to accommodate one. No wing splitters, rear wing or roof mounted hoop.
The bat features could of course have been added, but they've been with the car for most of its 45 years and have come through two restorations. The car is quite new to me but the oldest photo I have is from the early 80s and it has these batmobile bits, plus motorsport stripes on the sides and the front spoiler, and the stencil boot badge also.

Money no object I would reinstate to that period, but currently the car has plain black stripes and no boot badge at all; think the motorsport stripes and boot badge were lost during a late 80s restoration.

Hi Drew20

Thats very interesting. I only have experience of right-hand drive 'standard City-Pack' cars i.e. chrome bumpers front and rear and no spoiler.

When I worked in Liverpool in the late 70s I used to see a white CSL with motorsport stripes, which looked fabulous.
I'm sure it was not a Batmobile, as it lacked the aerodynamic accessories; in fact I don't think it even had a front spoiler
but I loved the look. If anyone knows anything of this car I would be interested.

I have owned my own CSL since 1982 and it is currently undergoing a full restoration.

I am not the first to say this but the BMW Classic website is a major disappointment, with very little available and staff, who say that parts "will be available by X date" but the parts never materialise.
Some time ago I exchanged e-mails with Gary Knox, who had been promised that the front grilles were to be made available "by the second quarter of 2017" - they are still unavailable!

Others have observed that BMW classic parts availability compares unfavourably with Porsche and MB.
Accordingly BMW enthusiasts have to scour other sources to complete their cars.

Cheers, Drew.

Well I'm going to try and float a boat here.... my CSL lived in Wallasey in the late 70s. With motorsport stripes. Interesting no front spoiler though, do you recall if it had the rear boot lip spoiler? ....or it could have a different car of course

Wow, Drew - that is a coincidence.

I believe that the car I remember had no spoilers - front or rear. I used to see it in the City Centre near Moorfields Station (in the Moorfields/ Dale Street/ Tithebarn Street area).
This would be 1979-early 1980s.

Ironically shortly after that I recall seeing a red 635 in the same area. This carried the registration number DEG5Y (owned by the left wing political firebrand Derek Hatton). I never saw the CSL again thereafter!!!

Probably just a coincidence.

Cheers, Drew.
