BAT daily E9 CS (European project ) offering

Obviously, the seats need re-upholstery, but the carpet set is new, the dash is exceptional with no cracks or cuts, and the door cards front and rear are perfect.
That's if he keeps the interior blue... wood is easy enough and the headliner will need replacement. So Interior, maybe $3K or so. Re-do the brown? Double+ that.
Instruments are clean, clock is non-op. Exterior trim is nice, but I'd refinish it, so $1200 there. Bumpers are very nice, no pitting or spots. Rub strips/over-riders also.
Included is a ding-free front center. All glass is original and scratch/fog free. All the rubber is included, a significant expense.

Mechanically, it needs nothing if he keeps the slushbox. No leaks, no smoke, a typical M30 that has received regular service. Carbs were rebuilt 6 years ago.
Brakes and suspension are fine, no squeaks, new Bilsteins a couple of years after we got it, brake pads are new, Detail the engine, powdercoat the suspension
bits and call it done. Let's say another grand.

Paint and body will be the big expense. From experience, $30-40K would do it with the steel supplied.

All in, a nice example finished for +/- $80,000. For a DIYer, a good bit less. If I wasn't buried in two other significant cars, I'd have kept it.

I think $3K is a bit light for the seats. I suspect that just the covers from Gah or World will set you back at least $2,500. If you want them to look nice the covers should get installed professionally. That will likely put you in the $4K range. What’s another $1K for an e9 though? :D

Hah! The correct-looking blue fabric is cheaper than leather or vinyl! Seriously though, getting out in under $100K is the goal, right? :p

Good point. I had leather on the brain. I love the look of factory cloth e9 seats.

If you had 100K in the car, I very much doubt you would get it out again. Well, unless inflation kicks up big time, in which case you are not getting your money out, you are getting a pile of toilet paper. And the other scenario is just as likely: an economic crash which tends to prick all bubbles.

I feel the bubbles 2002turbo refers to are on the verge of being pricked. Big time. Be it real estate, Gullwings, Bitcoin or tulips the bubble will be pricked, love using that word, sooner rather than later. And the pain will be spread wide and deep.

Well this is a whole new subject and we are not supposed to go there on this forum. My history on predicting these things: I am always 5 years too early. But the prick will probably come, there is no free lunch. Unfortunately, discretionary items tend to get the biggest prick. On the other hand, we may just get some inflation fever that will restore some sanity (and punish every saver), before common sense prevails and it all settles down again.
