I’m trying to decide what color to repaint my car with.
Since its an early model year, I think non-metallic is the way to go.
The car was originally Polaris, repainted a few years ago in a Ferrari/Maserati color called grigio granito. Looked kind of nice, but I want to use a bmw color this time.
Polaris is not an option as I dont like the look of it on the E3.
I have come down to two colors choices:
Granada and Agave.
But recently I have also been looking at greys..
Anyone seen an E3 in Derby grey?

My '68 2500 is Bristol Grey and is pretty plain looking, I'd actually prefer Nevada for an E3.

Derby is much darker, and I don't think I have ever seen it on an E3, just pre-1968 02's and Neuklasse 4 doors.

That thread is very instructive, but doesn't include Derby. Personally, I think Derby would look great on an e3, despite being non-original.
Here are shots of an e10 and e9 that I found using Google:

I’m not the biggest fan of tan or beige for exterior color.
And I’ve excluded mostly of the light colors, exept bristol.
Because early E3’s such as mine had no chrome belt line trim and silver front griIls, darker colors suits better in my opinion. Lighter colors tends to hide the body lines of a car. The belt line trim makes the difference here I think.
Early Polaris looks just like one big lump of silver/chrome.

Really like Granada (or perhaps this is Verona?)

Do you have some pictures of your 2500?

I think some colors that look good on a coupe don't look as good on a sedan, and vise versa. My E3 is Chamonix, which I didn't like, but now that I painted the car and have it on the road I REALLY like the color. To me it's very vintage/classic on a sedan, but I wouldn't paint my coupe Chamonix because I think coupes look better in a "sporty" color. I also think you need to be careful with greys. They can look fantastic done right but very blah other times.

Go Derby! It is an original BMW color. It shows off the lines better than the dark colors. Verona, which I call whore red, is just too shocking for my retina. And Dan/dang, I purchased JMinNJ's 1976 2002 about a year and half ago. It is Chamonix. I never liked white color cars. But Chamonix is not white. It is a subtle, gently cream/white. Put an Artic White? 2002 next to my Chamonix(and I have done this), and the difference is startling.

Go Derby!
