Hi folks - happy holidays to all!
It’s been a while - kids and fixing up a 993 and finally got round to stripping the engine to figure out what was causing that knocking noise.
Turns out it’s the piston pin / wrist pin bushing on cylinder 3 that has worn down and increasing the gap. While i was in there it looks like the connecting rod cap was bolted on the wrong way too. Cylinder 5 also had a loose piston pin but not as bad as #3.
I’ve cleaned all the crowns and just waiting for w&n order to arrive to reassemble.
Question for everyone - did you also find you had piston washing on your crowns? Mine seem to have and wondered if normal for this engine? The rings looked decent and gasket was intact.
