We were camped in Houx about a mile in, sitting by Arnage after about 5 minutes my internal organs were feeling funny on the downshifts. Not too bad when 1 or 2 cars were there but with 10+ cars screaming past, exhausts spitting flames and brakes glowing a few feet on the other side of a barrier I was too excited to care for personal safety
 
She's in good company at the moment l!

So had an issue with the car suddenly shutting off on the motorway, the way it died so suddenly led me to believe it was ignition related. Snarled up in 40moh limited traffic on the outside lane I just about managed to pull onto the hard shoulder.

Left it a few months and was seriously considering selling it. However fitted a new pump and filter and all is lovely again.
To help get some love back, a good friend decided to sort me out with this RS005/RS021s, which would have been original fitment for the car back in the 80s. Will get some decent rubber on the and next on the list is to replace the master cylinder which binds when hot, also need to stick an exhaust on there and should I get time, replace the currently bypassed heater core

205 55 and 225 50 16 Michelin pilot sport 4s. Wheels are 1986 date stamped and really look the part on the car

It's the bush at the open end of the master - gets oil etc and over the years expands, then when it's hot it holds the rod into the cylinder and it doesn't return. Once the car has cooled it's ok again. There was an excellent post, which I can't find again, but my E28 had that problem - here's my post on the E28 forum:

My master seized when the car got hot, then freed when it cooled. It's caused by the bakelite ring in the cylinder becoming contaminated and swelling.

Procedure:
remove the master
remove the snap ring by drilling a fine hole through the side allowing you to push a pin to compress the ring then lever it out.
put a rod inside the "kolbenschaft" so it doesn't become distorted when next mounted in a vise, protected with cardboard or thin alloy sheet.
remove the cylinder from the rod by tapping its periphery - not the lugs as they may break
with the bakelite ring freed, relieve the inside hole (not too much) with abrasive sheet
Reassemble. Try to use a circlip instead of the snap ring

I used this procedure which fixed my seizing brakes for the cost of some brake fluid. It saved me the cost of a new master.

Now have a functioning heater and master cylinder. Will redye the leather and give the interior some love then fit a new fritz Bits exhaust but she is ready again for the spring!

Great job. Any ideas on how to restore the steering wheel leather? I have the same one and would like to do that.

I use a kit from a company called furniture clinic in the UK. Thoroughly clean the leather with isopropyl alcohol and if needs be for any cracks, use a flexible leather filler which is then sanded down. I then apply leather dye with a sponge or cheap airbrush, then multiple coats of sealant
 
@Arde this is a set of Recaros I done with the kit which are now installed in my Mk1 golf. They have lasted about 6 years and have held up fantastic, the kit cost about £50 from memory. Won't be showroom fresh but it still has the character and patina of the seat without looking tatty

Can't believe I never posted this excellent demonstration of the E24s versatility. In 35 celcius (95 freedom temperature units) heat, not only does the boot make an excellent sunshade, but the drop down tool kit is an excellent picnic table.

Also fitted up a fritz exhaust which has really opened the sound up nicely although noticed a slight hairline crack which means I simply must purchase some headers. Oh and got the reverse lights working!

Great car!! My old euro e24 has factory Recaros and headlight wipers like yours...
