G’day fellas, I’m preparing for the “after paint” reassembly of my coupe. I have some Broken bolts from my side stainless steel trim that goes around the car (inline with the door handles and including the nose trim attachments). I would like to replace them and wondered if anyone can suggest replacement options or where the best place to purchase them from is?

Cheers Peter

Peter, Walloths have full trim set on special for 122 euros 51131400027...worth replacing all of them with new if you can. Also, I think it was SFDon that recommended using "shims" to protect the "fresh" paint but not sure where they might be available locally ( if at all) . Cheers. Simon

I have this set and they do not fit the belt trim as the heads are too thick- each one has to be ground down a little.

Absolutely not the W&N bolt-set.. They don’t fit.
Buy bolts directly from BMW, they are perfect!
Buy shims from Carl N/La Jolla.

I have the WN parts and no problem fitting them in the slot, and they are nice with the rubber washer, but the head on the T bolt doesn't seem as long and one spun
KN sells plastic nuts

Mark, when did you buy your set? I was thinking if maybe they have solved the issues.
I ordered my (bad) bolt set from W&N in June 2016.

I am not sure when I bought the bolts from WN, maybe about a year ago, but not too sure
Like I said, I had a problem with one of the T bolts
There are 2 parts to this, the T-bolt and the nut, the WN nuts are great
If you made your own, you could have them plated

I used the W/N bolts when putting my trim back on, they worked fine and just to slow the rust process down a bit I sprayed them with fish oil first, it may also slow the rate of oxidation between the steel and aluminium.

And I got a bag TODAY in the mail!
And I am bummed. They Do Not fit....
They have changed since my last order a few months ago. The head is much thicker and will not go in the slot.
The pic shows 2018 bolts on left and 2017 bolts on right. Old bolt heads are 1.15mm and new ones are 1.6mm. Too thick to install.
The shape is completely different also.
Second pic is 2018 on left and 2017 on right.

I have sent an email to W&N - they have been pretty good on fixing things.

Those are the exact same bolts that I got, the heads were too thick as you say.
I'm sure W&N could fix it in one way or the other, if nothing else, at least pay back the cost for the set. I didn't want to wait on that process when I was installing the beltline trim, so I got the bolts from BMW, they look exactly like the original bolts and fit without problems, but more expensive than the W&N ones. (I think they were like 3€/each)

I noticed that the W&N bolt/nut-set ad has pictures of the bolts that wont fit the trim:
51131400027_2.jpg

you spray the bolts w/ clear coat to seal them
dah

If you feel that's the proper way to do it, then go ahead, but I would not recommend anyone to do it.
Do you think the flimsy clear coat will be 100% intact after running the bolts from the end of the trim, down the tight slot to the place where they need to be at?
dah, right back at ya.

they dont even touch the metal when you slide them in
you can make them very thin as the dont need to be torqued hardly at all
heck i made mine finger tight so as to not dent the paint.
its a simple thing and clear coot is very strong itself
i made about 15 of them
i just solved my problem w them
actually i got them at ace hardware and they were stainless steel
my used ones i cleaned up with a drill and wire wheeel
