I can't see any purpose

It braces the shift platform (vs. bolting it to the tunnel). I am using Autosolutions brace and mount.

for those on a budget-

A used sway bar rubber, a bolt, 2 washers and a nylock is what we use.

Looks very clean, you did remove the metal band though on the guibo.
