That's a shocking statistic. Combine that with the literacy rates I found out about a little while ago (Adults, 21% with nothing and 54% below the reading age of a 6 year old) and it seems that you have two countries in the US, one being the clever people on groups like this and the other a much larger group with a much more parochial view of the world. That said, the US has still got more clever people than any state in Europe, but it must make election planning a nightmare.
 
Well it is debatable about the average intelligence of the American population There are many bright and uneducated people and there are some very ignorant educated people in the USA. Just like most countries. I am often astounded by solutions to specific problems found by uneducated people who need to solve an issue and come up with something creative. That being said I am amazed at how bad the converse to that is. and on the other hand, there are just people that missed the day that intelligence was handed out.

So my point, we on e9 coupe represent some of the brightest people around the world with brilliance and impeccable taste.

I feel the pain! For example, a few days ago I bought a vintage pin buckle for an antique Seiko watch from Japan. The cost was $168 US, with “free” shipping worldwide. Last night I received a bill from DHL indicating I had to pay $53 in tariffs and fees. So if you’re in the USA and you buy something from Japan, even if shipping from the vendor is free, count on adding a third extra to your purchase price! Really outrageous, but hey, 78 million people elected the guy sitting behind the Resolute Desk.

A $70 E24 ebay part coming from Beirut Lebanon assuming it isn't bombed before it ships.

Received an email from UPS. The part was shipped via ARAMEX from Beruit, Lebanon.
The "tariff" import fees are $44.38 on a $35 part with $30 shipping.
What a joke the this all has become. I will probably pay it and then challenge it. I suspect UPS is using it for increasing revenue as other shippers haven't charged anything.

I got one of these when I ordered some repair panels from W-N.

I called UPS and they sent me a form (Section 232 Steel and Aluminum Form). I listed the origin, Steel Content Value, which is what the tariff applies to, and the weight. Country of Origin was on the W-N invoice (Poland). I guessed at the weight, and Googled the price of steel per pound in the EU. Listed that its the Steel Content Value, and waited. Parts left Germany almost immediately and then got stuck in KY. I got yet another request for information, basically repeated the same stuff, and then after a couple of days I got the tariff invoice from UPS. It was about what I had come up with plus UPS's silly "brokerage fees.
 
Here are the latest charges on parts from W-N. This is on $750 worth of parts.

While the tariff is about 15%, all the fees added bring the total to about 30%

Gotta love the $25 fee for notifying me that the parts were released, and $15 because the notification was more than three lines long...o_O

however, the fees have gone UP. and when you think that they are already getting paid 60 bucks (49 euro) for shipping and double that for fees?
 
I may be missed something, but I thought that due to the supreme court ruling, the Tariffs got reset to 10% universally. I am still seeing UPS charge 50% plus though. On a $10 part value from Taiwan, I was just charged $5.62 in tarriff, and $14 in UPS fees. Nevermind the UPS fee, that is over 50% consistent with some of what everyone else is saying. So what is the correct amount now?
