jaguar intrigue

Jaguar's current CO stated that Jaguar's former customers make up only 15% of their current customers.
Now they are focusing on the young generation for whom they are preparing a whole series of electric cars and hence the rebranding.
I had thought that this data generally indicated that only 15% of people currently owning Jags buy Jags when replacing the car they have. This seems to be the logic behind all of those brand loyalty discounts, which only apply if you currently own a particular make of car and are looking to purchase a newer vehicle of the same brand.

If instead, as this wording seems to indicate, only 15% of the people who buy Jaguar's current product offerings have ever owned a Jag in the past, then I would agree with Arde. This would indicate that there is very little brand loyalty and that the brand is pretty worthless.

Brand loyalty is when you see three cars of the same make in a driveway. I never see three Jaguars.
Or when you drive 14 hours to Tucson in your Cabrio...

At one point I had 2 A 64 EType for me and a 72 short wheel base XJ6 for her. The E type, other than few Lucas glitches was dependable. The XJ6 was also dependable except for a failed trans. Hers went the way of a divorce the Etype was restoredand sold. Fast foward to 35 years later and I bought a 2000 Stype for a DD. Mainly because the grille looked like the old school,Stypes It had 65K on it and I have only had to repair the cooling system. To get to the radiator you had to take the whole front of the car off so I did all the hoses , water pump and thermostat as well. 15 hours later it runs as new. It's all Lincoln running gear and the 4 cam 3 liter 6 goes like a scalded cat so I will see. I honestly think it is luck of then draw

here in the USA the first car band to make ads with no cars was Infiniti in 1989. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Infiniti suffer from Jaguar’s fate it they don’t improve their products and brand loyalty.
The subject of Infiniti ads makes me think of the long-running series of somewhat abstract ads featuring the fabulous actor Jonathan Pryce. These ads often focused on a singular aspect of their cars, and were always filmed in a studio awash with bright light. The car (or pieces of it) floated in this brightly lit unreality as the presenter walked about in his all black suit and extolled whatever virtue of the car was being presented in the advert. I think they were trying to associate Infiniti with European luxury cars, and the perceived sophistication and precision that many Americans saw in them. The were simultaneously sophisticated looking, pretentious and imminently mockable.

This is it…

At a time in the past I had to choose between keeping a '72 3.0cs that was in really good condition and a '69 E-type roadster that needed some body and paint work but was a good car. I kept the coupe and don't have any regrets. That was coupe number three and I'm now on number five. The E-type OTS is long gone but it's just not my thing. Absolute stunning car but a completely different feel to German engineering and the confidence that goes with it.

I have to smile at all the "get off my grass" old people's comments on this post :) Yes, some of you may not be that old, but the comments.............come on guys

Firstly, and most importantly, the marketing people for Jaguar must be over the moon with the "opportunities to view" you have all given this campaign, everything they wanted and more, beyond even their wildest dreams. Not bad for a company that hasn't produced anything really exciting since the XJ220, maybe the Project 7, but the reality is they have been all but dead since the 70s, certainly aesthetically.

This advert and these cars are not aimed at old farts like me/us.................I also know my 16 year old daughter must be cold when one side of her sweater/jumper is hanging halfway down her arm, but I know, I am not the audience for a jumper that is halfway down my arm.

Guys, we love E9s and old cars on this page, most if not all of us, are just not the audience here, so, the youngsters will play on our grass and I would love to join them - as long as I do not have to jump or twist my knees to quickly, those days are behind me :) j

Actually, there were USA car ads with no cars 5 decades before the Infiniti ad. Duesenberg used ads with the slogan, "He drives a Duesenberg." This one is from 1935.
I've also attached a photo of my father's Model J Duesenberg he owned in 1948 when he was a medical student at the University of Chicago. It was just an old, gas-guzzling car at that point. He paid $300 for it, and sold it for a profitable $500 a little while later. He used that money, and more, to buy a Jaguar XK120, the first of many Jaguars owned. Iʻve included shots of the XK120 but donʻt have any on hand of the ʻ67 Convertible E-Type.

True, and I know it has a lot to do with cost, but why use an old marquee for "new" generation electric and "hip" cars? Toyota used Scion to market a brand directed at a younger crowd giving them more options down the road. Jaguar has given up on their history and brand admitting it's worthless. To be fair, like you said, the rest of us gave up 20 years ago.

Speaking of children...
Everything is for people but within normal limits.
I don't want my children to be indoctrinated with WOKE and LGBT culture from an early age...
A child is supposed to be a child until adulthood, nothing more!
And don't let anyone accuse me of being homophobic. I am a tolerant person and I have nothing against gays and lesbians, whom I also have among my friends, but I already have a lot of reservations about the LGBT and WOKE movements. Even within the gay and lesbian community, there have long been voices that these communities harm them more than they help them. Due to such aggressive and intrusive groups, they are increasingly discriminated against, but that is not the point.
This advertisement goes beyond the healthy limits of decency and I assume that its creators aimed not only to advertise the Jaguar brand after the rebranding, but also to advertise the community it currently represents and with which they identify.
And for me this goes beyond the boundaries of decency and I don't want my children to play on this grass...
When they grow up, they will decide for themselves what is good for them.
Whether the good old, rusty BMW E9 coupe or the pink, brand new, sexless Jaguar that resembles a Chrysler 300C station wagon.
And apparently they don't copy anything and are so original...

They even copied the woman with a hammer from the Apple ad from '84 in their ad.
Only in their advertising she seems so genderless, but she has a hammer.

I wouldn't mind if there were two dads or two moms in this Apple ad. Human values are still shown here.
I don't see anything human in the Jaguar ad...

No offense, this is my personal opinion.

I think it was Shakespeare who said "Methinks he doth protest too much”

You are very obviously not a tolerant person and your political indoctrination and rants are not of interest to me on a car page.

My children don't need protection from a Jaguar advert; they need protection from people who want to control how others think and behave - like you !

BTW all my children are massively successful in life and those that already have their careers, caring, loving individuals - not indoctrinated by self interested closed mind homophobic individuals

I will let the administrators decide if they leave this here, but I really dont give a flying F what you think Lucas

You are greatly over-interpreting my statement...

You have your own opinion and I respect it, but I have mine and there is no politics or prejudice in what I think.
I don't like politicians because they are usually fake.
But children are real and I congratulate you on your success in raising your children, who, as you yourself said, have also achieved success in their lives.
I won't say any more on this topic, but I have my opinion on Jaguar advertising and everyone already knows it.

Adults have the right to choose, but I will not tolerate children being indoctrinated by such disgusting advertisements as the new ad for the neutered and sexless Jaguar or the Bud Light ad with a transgenic persona.
For me, this iconic car brand no longer exists.
I am a tolerant person but I do not agree to flaunt this type of weirdness!!!
Lighten up Francis....these are the new version of the young people older more conservative types called Hippies (and communist!) in the 60s. This story is as old as the moon...

Pete I think Lucas was triggered by the video here:

Hijacking a car brand to your personal crusade is perhaps what bothered Lucas.

Peace!
