Made a couple small parts: seat belt channel and gas cap holder

i have a pair of console sides to mount them in ... the a/c isn't in my car right now. i assume you have already trial fitted them into the console sides already. if you haven't, i would be happy to do a test fit for you and buy them if they fit well (and of course, i would post the results as i know they will be good)

ElGrecko-

Several members have had C&Ds sent their way for just reproducing parts, but it does seem hit or miss. @Marco got one as I recall for AC side covers years ago, hence my concern. As it is, though, my latest version of the AC side panels is different from the real part in several ways, including the lack of graining (but I think I can add that) and it is considerably thicker/more robust. The plastic used is also different. Hopefully that would be enough to make it legally distinct, just in case.
If you could stop people from reproducing anything that isn't patented by simply saying that the parts were infringing on "copyright" restrictions there are multi-billion dollar businesses that would get shut down tomorrow. That is what patents are for. In the turbine engine world there are what are called "PMA" suppliers that knock off you parts and get them qualified and sell them all day long. The parts aren't patented (and as I said if they were the patents would have long ago expired). You engineered your own part. You didn't use proprietary data or drawings from BMW and the part you made is not exactly the same. So long as you don't have logos on the part it's your part and you own the IP that created it. Even if you create the exact part (minus any logos or having BMW on it) then they can't stop you from making and selling it. Some people use an existing part to make a mold and in that case it can have the original makers name and logo on it, but absent that they can't do anything. Don't worry about it.

i think where the problems have come are by posting models in places (public websites) listed as a part for a BMW. if you say it is a replacement that fits a BMW model i believe you will find less confrontation. if you talk about how you improved a poor design from BMW, my guess even less.

Ran into this years ago with P car parts… they are famous (infamous?) for their cease and desist crap. Not really a damn thing they can do to you unless you copied some technical part they, as mentioned, have a patent or copyright on.

Just to add… I admire you all for making parts I do not have the knowledge base for 3d printer and the like.
