Red screwdrivers??

Ives,

I was just trying to make a point and have no intention of reproducing a screwdriver that at best I might be able to sell 50 or so. We do manufacture hand tools and in theory we could reproduce them but it would make absolutely no financial sense. I think you might have missed the point I was trying to make.

verde2002,

We're just trying to have some fun here. You may have missed the point I was trying to make by echoing the use of "idiot" from your post. We all have different objectives and finanacial means and it is not constructive to call anyone or group names on the forum that you would not say to their face. This forum is invaluable for it's depth of knowledge on the Coupes but also for the comradery it creates. I think understanding that we all go about working on the Coupes in different ways and with different objectives and attitudes is important to maintaining a constructive community.

Regards, Jon

Ives,

I understans to some the red screwdriver is very important and I guess I might have crossed the line a bit calling people idiots. I was just fired up and really concerned by the fact that if a screwdriver is going to cost me $500 am I going to have to pay $5,000 for a fender soon or $2,500 for a windshield?

Red Screwdrivers and anal owners

All anal Coupe owners please raise your right hand and say after me:
"I like my red screwdrivers cause they are correct original equipment and though irreplaceable I do use them from time to time" C'mon Chris raise your hand!! "verde says" "I was just fired up and really concerned by the fact that if a screwdriver is going to cost me $500 am I going to have to pay $5,000 for a fender soon or $2,500 for a windshield?"

Just stick around as your wish may come true--was going through some receipts from 36 years ago for the BLUMAX and in comparing those prices with now the prices you quote for fenders and windshields may be bargains. An example--I paid the parts Department guy of a very small hole in the wall Dealership in Des Moines Iowa $15.00 for a new tool box in 1978--he was happy to find a buyer--they had no Coupe customers so he made me a deal.

Hmhmm--wonder what a new one would cost today if available?

BTW--the blue cloth was not original equipment but urban myths have made it an indespensable part of the those who swear they would kill for one to go in their toolbox. verde--could your tool company make blue polishing clothes for the anal and other believers?--bet they would fetch a nice price and the profit margin would be at least 20:1--not bad eh?

i got a red screw driver for sale

it's even cheaper...lol just $499,- instead of 500,-
the blue cloth is actually more expensive for the 8 series where it cost more like 120,- bucks... back then i was like 'yay' when i found one in my tool box. and stated braggin about it... especially after i found the glove box torch and it still worked... pmsl

i have two

one reads heyco on it...
the other looks like the second from the left in your picture and got a flip blade.
they came out of my 69 2800cs tool kit

PM me your offer

Murray,

Sorry, I can't raise my hand because I wouldn't use my red screwdrivers, I carry a small set of sockets and tools when I take long trips in case something should happen. Thanks however for giving me one of them as well as the blue cloth. That is how the coupe community works here in the OC, we share parts and advice and help each other out whenever we can. Whether it is cad plated nuts and bolts, a Hella relay for the head lights, fabric covered brake booster hose or other bits and pieces to keep our coupes original someone always comes through. Thanks again Murray, and also Paul, Tom, Ron, Ray, Jay and many others.

Chris

do they come through with free parts?

Absolutely! There are exceptions of course but most is exchanged because we are all good friends and enjoy helping each other out.

Red screw drivers

BMW Art car--you have the "real deal"--Preservation Tip follows:

looking closely at the small one I see it's rusting--suggest you get some fine bronze wool at a marine supply store and work it over surfaces of all your tools and screwdrivers to remove all the rust--before it breaks through and does serious damage to their quality.

After working them over--may take 30-40 minutes to do all of them--give generous wipe with WD-40 or similar to all exposed metal surfaces--will help postpone future rust--even in Florida.

Having both of the red screwdrivers in a E9 tool kit is of course very nice. The red ones are very sought after because it gives the little extra recognition/attention among other E9 enthusiasts when showing a E9 car. I don't think we have "crossed the line" here, when aiming for the red ones.

There are actually worse cases; I know oldtimer collectors, who actually are obsessed to find periodic trash from the same year as the car. I.e. putting a Coca-cola bottle from 1975 on the floor in the 1975-car or periodic candy paper from the same year as the car etc.

In my opinion, that's a little bit to much, so do not hesitate to search for the red ones!

Cheers
