my god ! what a dirty lock mechanism ! in fact it was blocked and i can not use the key to close it !

Good timing, as I have to take my panels off to change my door brakes. I gotta know, in the first shot, how did you know where to find the hole to Pop the Chrome piece out? (Of the window vent knob)

Just slide it around the back until you find the hole. But it is not necessary to remove that or the ashtray to remove the panel-it has cut-outs for them so it slides out from below.

as i have explained before my right side door stop is broken, moreover looking at it now in the picture, i am noticing that it was wrongly assembled

some months ago, in a trip to germany i found some NLA, NOS door stops, these are original door stops for e9, but for the 2000 version as is clearly stated in the bag, it seems that it doesn´t fit for our 3000 bodies:

there are some differences that can be told from the pictures

but the most remarkable one is that the size of the base area that gets in contact with the door panel is different, bigger in fact, that does not allow you to place it correctly, so i have to work a bit taking material off to accomodate this

so to copy the old shape, i put one against the other in the vice and fix both with bolts

and using a file...it is aluminium, so the work is not hard

now it is modified to correct shape:

compare my two new door stops, the lower one has been modified to fit in my e9

once assembled, perfect fit, perfect function

it is nice to have this working, i have not had a door stop in the right door since i bought the car

Although I would not wish worn-out or broken parts on any car owner, I always look forward
to your repair/re-furbishment projects.

I really appreciate the detailed photographs you share with all of us. They are very useful for
reference purposes as the many times copied repair manual illustrations aren't often very clear.

The door project is one that I will be tackling myself very soon...to clean/grease window
mechanisms and to replace missing door panel fasteners.

Also one of my chrome door panels strips (the long one one the lower half of the door panel)
has come loose on one end. Is there an easy way to reattach it? It seems like the little
metal attachment prongs only grab the door covering material, not the door panel itself so it's
starting to pull the door covering out. The chrome strip itself might not be perfectly flat too.

Perhaps I could entice you with a trip to beautiful Greenville, SC. I could take you on a tour of the BMW factory up the road and a nice drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway. All I would expect in return is a few weeks in my garage sorting through my car.

I'm joking of course, but your work here almost gives me enough courage to try and do some of this work myself. Great stuff and keep up the good work (although I too secretly wish more stuff would break on your car)!

this is the part itself, after removing the rust of the attachment plate (the one that has the prongs), i applied rust converter and them i painted with zinc paint:

the part is very long and now is good, eventhough not perfectly straight, but when i removed from the door trim it was really bent

the unbending work is really a difficult one, you must go little by little using a piece of wood fixed to the vice, and a cloth wrapping the wood to avoid scratches, then it is better to do a little be less than needed, check, and do it again, have a flat surface close to your working area to check

if the prongs are not attaching the chrome strips to the cardboard, it might be because the cardboard is destroyed, and thus the prong is making the pressure to the cloth through the destroyed cardboard

it is no other way to fix it but removing the whole panel out

any alternative way that tries to fix it will result in a damage in the mentioned prongs, and they are not easy to fix or substitute

new issue, the trim panel

i need to remove the cover to reuse it in a new panel

i tried to remove all, including the felt,

but it has been imposible, the felt is glued to the panel due to heat in long lines (i guess the cause was the production process), so i had to remove one from the other, i used a hot air gun to help

cleaning:

copy the deteriorated panel in new fresh material

Once I remove the door panel I'll check the size of the holes
in the cardboard.

My metal strip with the prongs is coated with surface rust that I''ll
need to clean up too. Most of the prongs have to be straightened out to looks like yours before I try to reattach the chrome strip to the panel.

I restored my panels almost the same as you, I just keeped the last layer of card board so the felt stayed . I used aluminum panels for my door card, it wont warp now ever. I Enjoyed your post.
