Seeing all this, you will want to paint the subframe I just sold to you. It ain't up to this standard.

hey Drew ... they are fully rolled - completely out of the way. Brendan will be putting in decamber plates while everything is undone as well.
 
Your car will be (is) gorgeous!....but not completely stock. Because of that, you may want to consider black wheel wells. The Ceylon color may be "shouting" from the wheel wells a little too much. Having them disappear with black might be best for the overall look. Also, keeping the Ceylon wells clean would either be an impossible task or tempt you not to drive the car too much.

Maybe do it old school. Paint it Ceylon then a light undercoat as it would have been done when new for protection.
 
well, its time to start updating this thread. car has been home for a couple of weeks. i have started by trying to find all of the (many) things that have gone missing at the paint shop. i want to thank @TomHom for helping me find many things.

the first thing was to get the car in the garage and swap on the 15" OZ alpina style wheels (thanks @Stevehose ) and put the car on go-jack skates so i can easily move it around. the next thing was to clean all of the paint shop dust off of the paint - a good waterless bath with Griots products ... the hood, trunk, air dam, windshields and rocker panels are still at the paint shop - it will make a side trip to get all of those installed.

the first real work has been to start with exterior trim - belt trim, rear lights and center panel are on ... the polished trim looks great against the ceylon. B pillar + sill trim are on, door hardware is in progress ... that's a learning process of what has to go on first and finding / connecting all of the right parts. in the process of cleaning / polishing / selecting all of the window / door trim pieces. already cleaned + greased the window motors / most of the hardware.

the floors / tranny tunnel are mostly clean of the insulation and tar - the self-etching primer has started on the passenger side (a little more final cleaning is needed on the drivers side).

Can't wait to see this one! Did it take 4 years to get the paint done? Is that what shop times are like these days?
 
no, its longer than that - somewhere between 6 + 7. my condition was different, nothing about it was normal. started as a bunch of touchups that changed into the painter saying - i'm just going to paint the whole car. then i asked, how much for a color change. look, i regret nothing as the car is friggin gorgeous. its so much better than the great majority of very good paint jobs.
 
some progress on the floors - first all of the insulation off, with remnants of the tar left - then a few pics getting the tar off with Goo Gone ... then skipped forward to the first coating of gray primer. not perfect, but a good start. going to reseal the drains, and i managed to shear off the reverse light wire ... so time for a new wire and a new grommet. will be taking the parking brake off, doing the upgrade, repainting it and putting a new handle + button on it. almost time to start the dynamat ... there is a ton of work left to do.

Good idea to put bolts in all those bolt holes so you don’t get primer in them.
Now is a good time to put some sound proofing VB one X on that sheet metal
 
i thought about that AFTER i started hitting it with primer. i am going to put bolts in the holes before i start putting dynamat on - so i know where to cut around. i wanted to do a good spray-on sound proofing but now that the car is painted, i don't want to spray anything around the car. i used foam brushes to put the primer on.

ok ... missed that part. i already bought a couple of boxes of dynamat (18" x 18") - so it will be going on. painting with a brush would be easier, wish i had talked to you before i bought the stuff. i guess i could sell the dynamat - or at least the unopened box (or even return it to Amazon). painting would be much easier in the back seat for sure ... and i haven't bought dynamat for that area. after sound insulation, i am planning to put dynaliner thermal insulation on - especially tranny tunnel, firewall and the main floors.
Such a great color/, the car will be incredible..

And it will take three hands to reassemble the handbrake if the spring has been removed. Not a fun job.
good to know, i haven't done that job before ... will make sure i have somebody around to help when i decide to tackle that job.

been looking on Grainger web site and haven't found VB one X or any paintable sound coatings - i found VB - 1x on a cascade audio website, but didn't find a way to buy it. any suggestions?
