Show your...Steering wheel(s)

Yea, Mark and John have looked at it but until I take the wheel off, it will likely remain a secret.

As I told John, I don't want to ruin the perfect matching patina on the Allen heads! That wheel has likely been on that hub for 25 plus years.

I have a new one for you guys, picked up this lovely, crazy rare, wood Alpina wheel a few months back, it was solid but needed a refresh. The wheel is made by Personal, is 40cm in diameter and was probably made in the 60’s for a 2000cs or maybe early e9’s. It’s only the second one I have ever seen, you can see it on the old Alpina ad I have posted below. I sent it to “the man” @Hans W. for a gentle refurbish and he did an excellent job taking this back to how it probably looked off the shelf 50+ years ago. I am pretty excited to add this one along side the other Alpina wheels in the collection.

It’s been a banner year for the Alpina wheels and I have a very special one to share with you gents. An original silver spoke Momo Alpina CSL steering wheel complete with the early stacked Momo logo and box stitching on the back of the thumb rests. We are all very familiar with the iconic black spoke version of this wheel, but this is an altogether different animal rarity-wise. I have only seen one other one and a picture of one in an old ad. The wheel itself is in amazing condition especially considering it’s almost 50 years old. These were always listed as 380mm but are actually closer to 375mm. The leather on this example is still soft and with seams nice and firm. Just a few battle scars that you expect from a wheel of this sort and plenty of character. The CSL Alpina wheel is my absolute favorite wheel of all time and I am over the moon to now have both the black spokes and silver spoke versions in my collection!

I recently acquired this 1966 Formel 380mm wood rim steering wheel from Bouke at Vintage Volante in Holland.

I think it suits my CSi quite well!

Dan--I have the same Formel wheel and horn button on my Coupe. I like the 3 and 9 o'clock position of the spokes. Too bad the wood rim is not thicker. I bought mine on EBay about a year ago. The hub is crinkle finished black.---Drew

Hi Mark, have you received my wheel yet? I have been thinking of putting this wheel for sale for a while but I can't find a match. It's 38cm and lay flat(I mean the spoke is flat). Any thoughts. Thanks.

Update: I purchased this 380mm Momo Alpina wheel from BBOY about 3 years ago, and after a long wait it has been restored to its former glory. The wheel was very solid, spokes all straight and in good shape, but the leather was completely roached beyond comprehension. I sent it away for restoration early last spring and then well, you know what happened in the world. So it’s been gone for quite a long time, but happy to see it’s finished and on its way back! It will be thoroughly used once it arrives!

MOMO still makes the 3 spoke Prototipo, available many places.

Ya, I know, but prototipos can be had anywhere. The one I posted is unique w/the bottom spoke leather wrap on the bottom there.

These wheels feel fantastic in the car.
Absolutely, nothing beats the looks nor feel of these Alpina Momo wheels

I got these 2 Alpina wheels recently……
1. 38.5cm Momo Alpina flat wheel with a long 153 Momo hub
2. 35cm Momo Alpina wheel with standard 152 Momo hub.
Unfortunately, this particular wheel has come up for fake sale after I bought it, in Kleinanzeigen on 5 different occasions in the last 8 weeks. I reported it each time but I wonder how often the wheel sold before Kleinanzeigen took the advert down! Fake seller used the initial pics from when I had bought it. Kleinanzeigen has become an unsafe place………

@Keshav -that 38.5 wheel is very cool!

And, yes the Momo feels so much better than the Petri. Did a very spirited drive last weekend and it's just the perfect size and shape.

Just to reiterate on the ‘watch out from Kleinanzeigen’ adverts, my Alpina 38.5 wheel is again for sale for 240€. I can well imagine folks paying that price blindly. I’ve reported it so hopefully it will be removed before folks end up loosing.

Let's just bugger him with an inbox flood, I've sent him a few messages in my very funny german language skills.

@Keshav that 38cm is fantastic and the bidding was fun to watch! Glad you wound up with it. Kleinanzeigen is saturated with scammers nowadays. It’s awful.

@tferrer those CSL Alpina wheels are one of the most beautiful wheels Momo ever made, congrats! I don’t know how you do it :)

I've got serious connections...;-)

I love the look and feel of this new Nardi wheel which accompanies new Bela wood dash, wood gearshift knob, and vintage Becker Europa radio -- actually the face of a RetroSound Bluetooth system (note the tiny hands-free microphone atop the steering column) -- surrounded by a custom cardinal red dash pad that matches the upholstery.
