So, how do you really feel about rising coupe values?

I read the book a while back
Scott

I was staying with a friend of John Fitch the night before a race. Said friend was kind enough to introduce this book to me, since coincidentally the next day it was guaranteed that we’d be racing in the rain. I enjoyed the book to degree that I finished it in one sitting. It was foolish to get so little sleep considering the drivers meeting was at 8AM. Anyway, the racing was fine and I’ve now a fond memory of my first encounter with a nice book. I think I’ll skip the movie.

TodB: don’t you find the 2002 delightfully direct and tossable when compared to the E9? I have no doubt the E9 is a better high speed GT but I think 02’s are hands down superior for zipping around town.

View attachment 45945 When Disney puts the movie out featuring our beloved coupes the prices will hit the roof. They are already buying coupes for filming I hear.
Anybody else reading the book?
Our "parts hoarder" friend ExecMalibu's profession is supplying vehicles for movies and has several E9s that show up in Abercrombie and Fitch and other advertising. Not sure if he rented the car for the movie Fracture

You bet and even more so since I added recaros. So much fun.

Just had my CS re-valued by Shannons Insurance (they specialise in classics) as thought it was sensible post restoration.
They came back with a conservative agreed value of 100k AUD but thought market value a little higher.
Sound slike it's not just us noticing an increase in value and demand for these coupes.

I don't love mine that
Hi Dang,

Well I for one don't think your a Wacko. If you have something special you should take care of it an treat it with respect. However you look at it these cars will still be around when we are all long gone. The only way to preserve them is to take extremely good care of them and to keep them in top condition. Only by doing this will they forever remain attractive to future generations of owners and live on until the end of times.
I don't love mine quiet this much, it gets driven in all UK weathers from snow to sun and red lines to clear it's throat.
Rising prices are great, expensive parts not so. Plus the new generation DONT love cars, so these cars won't be around till the end of times, they will make up the bonnet section of a Nissan leaf in 30 yrs time

Ditto - I use mine whenever I can in all weathers and include the odd Italian Tune Up to clear its throat. I treat it with respect but not like a boil washed dog which has forgotten how to 'dog'.

I think they will be around after we're gone. The new generation do like these cars as they recognise they cannot have them but also recognise them as something different in a world which all looks the same. In Central London, when I park my car and return, there is invariably some youngsters around it AND they often know about the model. The best quote so far from a youngling was "compared to the other cars parked here, it looks like a piece of jewellery".

I'm seriously doubting if in Europe these, and other combustion engines, will soon be 'politically incorrect'. Environmental awareness is becoming bigger, and even my 5 year old knows where C02 comes from. I have 30 year old friends that refuse to take flights for weekends away with friends...
For sure there will be newcomers that will appreciate our cars, but as their numbers dwindle, so do prices.

Erik , that's why i drive them instead of restoring. We are perhaps the "last" generation that may use them !
That's a true but a very sad fact. Kids don't like cars anymore, it's all lip filler, BOTOX and karmadashuns or what ever that bloody family are called.

Well what is there to like about modern cars apart from the fact that they are super efficient.

They all look the same, they are all much or less made out of the same parts and will be replaced by the next model in 3 to 5 years.

My kids love my cars. My 3yo daughter spent the weekend helping me tear down my CSL. She also loves taking the CS for a spin and getting ice cream but we don't eat it in the car..
I'm figuring if they spend time with me and the cars now they will value me and the cars later when all three of us will require constant maintenance.

My middle daughter out of 3 daughter's is into cars! She was my pit Cheif when racing F2 and when we had the rally car, she loved it. But she did it more to spend time with me but grew to love the cars.
Her boyfriend on the other hand, dissent even know what a spark plug it! He and his mates are computer geeks and gamers!............Yes it will handsomely pay the bills in the future, but won't keep him out of the D.I.Y store at the weekends!

I like the values going up as that is what most of us expect. What I don't like is the parts prices going up by leaps and bounds. If coupe prices don't keep rising then it will be real easy to be upside down in an E9 project.
I've got $40k in metal work and paint and most of the above average coupes are going for that but I feel confident mine will be one of those over $100k cars when done.
What's my labor worth............ it's called love.

mr bump, we also have to add, 200 HP is nothing for a modern car lover …. 300/400 is the standard or... mega torque in diesels.... you have to run good down the gears to keep up with the traffic. Yes, our rally car can keep up due low gearing … think max speed is 180 km/h. Should better be 160 with only 210 HP and 300 NM :) our dailys have 500NM... .

Saturday we have the next marathon rally.... but it will be exceptional good weather … so he won't rust on the road :D
On the other hand , if i see prices for a fender/rear light... became crazy risk rallying a coupe.....:(

the downside about rising prices of coupes is that parts prices soar ... coupled with parts going NLA on a weekly basis. all of this makes it more difficult for newer buyers to restore / improve their coupes.
