The Vintage Asheville/Hot Springs NC 2021 Who's going? May 20-22. Postponed to Sept 16-18

We will find a place out side the venue to gather before we go in.
We already have a spot in the venue agreed on by the organizer.
When you turn in the drive off of Highway 25 it will be to the right.
There is a small hill there along Hwy 25 where we can park side by side.
The back of your car will be towards the road. The front facing 300 other cars in the field.
I will work on a gathering place outside but with the area reserved it should not be a big problem.
The organizer did request that we arrive as a group. Other cars that want to park together do this.

Here's a map. A few in this group have offered to help organize.

Thanks Tom,
Steve and Don have been multiple times and are familiar with the area.
I have been to 12 in a row with multiple cars.
Going to be great to meet some faces we hear on here but don't see.

Given the crap situation in New Orleans that has no timetable for being livable again, I am not going to be able to attend this year. I just let a friend siphon all the gas out of my car because there isn't any within 100 miles. `I have my sights set on LOTA in November, hopefully we'll have electricity by then :D

I hope to see many of you in SC!

Update- 9/8/21

Now we will park to the left as you go in the driveway.
All approved by Scott Sturdy the show owner.
This area is a special display area and there is some shade there.

We want to meet across the street and drive in together.
Opens at 9 AM and have to be in by noon.
Remember it's a 1 hour drive up from the Asheville area.
So tentatively we will meet around 8:30, drive in at 9 and park.
For the stragglers, (that there will always be) someone will be watching at the entrance to direct you to the area.
You won't get in after 12 Noon.

Here's an updated map with area circled in red.
There is a more scenic route up highway 63/209. 1 Hour and 16 minutes.

Scott posted on FB last night that he couldn't get the registration open again. It's been closed for many weeks.
Some technical glitch he's been consumed with for a few days.
He said last week he would send an email with schedule for drive and possibly the directions. You would only get that if you are registered.
He's kind of a one man band at times so I'm just trying to be patient.

I’m registered…. Just no email on the drive yet

As the event gets closer, the weather forecast seems to be getting worse and worse. Full disclosure, I’ve NEVER driven ( or considered driving) my coupe in the rain in the 12 years I’ve owned it. If you are attending, how are you approaching the weather? I’d really like to get over my hesitation if it makes sense in moderation for a fun event like the Vintage.

Accuweather for Hot Springs, NC is forecasting low 80's with 25% chance of rain. My understanding of the "25% chance of rain" means that it could rain 0.1 inch in some of the area. PoP = Confidence x Area so it could be 50% confidence that 50% of the area could receive 0.01 inch of rain.
We plan to go as there are very few days when there isn't a chance of rain.
Hope to see you there.

I'm going rain or shine.
My coupe is meant to be driven not hiding in a garage.
Leaving noon Thursday with a small caravan to Asheville from Norcross, GA.
Back roads up through the North Georgia mountains into NC.
A beautiful drive with only 20 miles of expressway.

How about at the Red Lobster parking lot on Pleasant Hill Rd. West of 85. Big lot there.
We'll go up 85 to 985 and then to Dillard, Franklin NC etc.
May be a couple more cars. Tom's is driving his Inka Tii.
Nick has my phone number.
Shown above.
12 noon. Ok.
I'll update via text if any changes.

Your car will be fine if it gets wet, just make sure your rocker drains are clear (see my post on this). Bring some towels in case your windscreen(s) leak. Who knows how much longer events like this will be put on or if we can attend due to various life circumstances (eg in my case hurricanes etc)? Don't let rain dissuade you, I've driven many hours through torrential weather to and from these events and my car is still in one piece. Just make sure it's dry on the insides (long drive in dry weather) before putting it away. Carpe diem :)

Gary,

You’ve got me listed twice
JMinNJ AKA John Margherita.

Regarding the forecast. While my car is mostly rust free I’ve always referred to it as a driver. With L-Jet and 5 speed it’s a joy to drive. I’ve been caught in the rain several times over the years. While it’s disconcerting, I accept it as part of the experience.
Rain-X and new wipers added to the prep process.

John
