Tygaboy's '74 - An Update/Improve Effort

Out and about on a postcard-worthy morning. Today was attending the BCR (Breakfast Club Rally) "Air Cooled Social" event in Calistoga. No organized drive, just a Cars & Coffee that featured air cooled stuff. Tons of Porsches, obviously, but also a Corvair and a Bug! I got a bunch of nice comments and thumbs ups. It's cool that our E9s gets love from virtually all car folks, no matter their favorite marque.

Off topic, but here's a pic of just how wide the range was: from a 908 and 356 roadster race car to driver-quality to show-worthy 356s, bone stock SCs to crazy wide body hot rods. A really fun morning.

Bo - My mistake, it's a 910 and it didn't have a plate. The owner (who I believe is quite local to the event) must know someone or gotten a permit as what I heard was the police "escorted" him to the event.

They did. They showed after you left and escorted the 910, 356 Carrera and the silver 930 back to his home. It sounded great when they cranked it up.

Was the 908 ever street legal?

From my understanding, the 904 was the last one that was street legal...

Well, that didn't last as long as I thought it would. My coupe has been sold and the new owner should be picking it up in a week or so. I think I'm finally coming to grips with the fact that I'm more of a fabricator/builder, less of an owner. I had to scratch the E9 itch and now that it's been scratched, the itch has moved!
This coupe has enabled me to make number of new friends, including @sfdon Don and his team, @aguirola Alberto, @Bmachine Bo, and @tferrer Tyson and a number of his car buds. In all, a wonderful experience!
So let me say "Farewell, drive safely and hope I see you out and about in your favorite car(s)!"
In the meantime, if you need me, I'll be in the Red Barn, working on getting a Ferrari 360 drive train swapped into a 914!

It's been an unmitigated pleasure getting to know Chris and when I heard the E9 was potentially up for sale, I admit, I had reservations. It's hard for e9 diehards to reason why someone would sell an e9 after so much work has been done but.. it's really just a car and after spending time with Chris, working on design solutions and watching him fabbing up brackets, welding and getting his head into general problem solving, it's easy to see how much he enjoys (and how good he is at) the design/build process. I say kudos to him. He's discovered what really makes him happy and at the end of the day, that's what it's all about! AND if you're lucky enough to live close, he's happy to show off his plasma table and tig welder to the benefit of your car...

Hello Chris, I am back in town and was hoping to get a ride on the Coupe. Oh well...
Now, I have something to look fwd to, that 360, wow! Just could not let well enough..., well, you know.
A big round of applause for the new / old project. We'll see you soon, really soon!
Hope that by the time we get there, you wont have switched for a V12, hem hem.

Looking back, it was a bit out of character for Chris to buy a car that was mostly there and then have someone else do some mechanical and suspension work on HIS car. That couldn’t possibly have worked for very long.
But what did work is the making of a true great friend, as generous as he is talented, as crazy as he is humble. We are lucky to have had him pass through our community. We are all richer for it.
